About this audiobook

A REESE WITHERSPOON x HELLO SUNSHINE BOOK CLUB YA PICK

Filled with all of the action, emotion, and lyrical writing that brought readers to Sky in the Deep, New York Times bestselling author Adrienne Young returns with Fable, the first audiobook in this new captivating duology.

Welcome to a world made dangerous by the sea and by those who wish to profit from it. Where a young girl must find her place and her family while trying to survive in a world built for men.

As the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is the only home seventeen-year-old Fable has ever known. It’s been four years since the night she watched her mother drown during an unforgiving storm. The next day her father abandoned her on a legendary island filled with thieves and little food. To survive she must keep to herself, learn to trust no one and rely on the unique skills her mother taught her. The only thing that keeps her going is the goal of getting off the island, finding her father and demanding her rightful place beside him and his crew. To do so Fable enlists the help of a young trader named West to get her off the island and across the Narrows to her father.

But her father’s rivalries and the dangers of his trading enterprise have only multiplied since she last saw him and Fable soon finds that West isn't who he seems. Together, they will have to survive more than the treacherous storms that haunt the Narrows if they're going to stay alive.

Fable takes you on a spectacular journey filled with romance, intrigue and adventure.

Now i was a bit worried going into this series after my experience with her "sky in the deep" series as i was getting a little bit bored with the slow pace, while "the girl the sea gave back" made up for it, i was hesitant of getting disappointed after all the hype "Fable" got.
But thankfully i was not and am glad i went ahead and listened to the book, it was SO GOOD, the pace, the writing style and OMG FABLE my little baby i was in love with her, her wild red locks, her 'i don't give a shit' attitude.
However i wished there are was a little more action, i wanted more fighting, more arguing, more pirate stuff and more HEAT.
needless to say i am already listening to the following book "Namesake" as i am writing this review ^^
Also if you had liked "daughter of the pirate king" then am sure you will like this series as well.

I think it would have been better if I read the book instead of listening to it. The excitement didn't really start until at least 60% into the book; and I probably would have given up at 33% But, I have an ARC of the second book so I had to finish this one. Really feel that this book was overrated, and I'm probably the minority opinion.

    Maybe it was the narrator?

Great narrator. Story drags occasionally when it gets caught up in descriptions of the sea, but a good read nonetheless.

I'm revising my opinion that I don't like sea novels, because this was super good! The characters and plot were fun! I'm really excited to read the next one!

Fantastic, absolutely loved this one. Action packed with a strong female protagonist. Compelling story of a young woman making her own way in the world. Can't wait for part two.

Wow... I LOVED this book! I read it as part of Reese's bookclub. It's a sort of historical novel with adventure and a tough young female character. Fable reminded me a bit of Katniss, but she's much more likable. At first, I had a hard time understanding the nautical terms and visualizing the parts of a ship but I watched a couple of movies (Pirates of the Caribbean and Master and Commander) and I understood everything better. I loved how clear and descriptive the writing was without going over the top. The action scenes were so exciting, I hope they make a movie or series! Can't wait to read the next one. And the narrator was amazing!

I was hesitant with this one. Highly recommended books had really disappointed me before. But this book was amazing! One of my favorite reads of the year.

Une intrigue un peu faiblarde à mon goût mais un super univers, une protagoniste débrouillarde avec une backstory originale, une narration réussie pour de la première personne et surtout un cliffhanger qui donne envie de continuer.

Love the pace of the story but not really loving the narrator ? however, it’s still a fun audiobook! Can’t wait to listen to Namesake (the 2nd book). The ending left me in a shock!!!!! ❤️

What an amazing book! I was baffled at how much I enjoyed it. If you like pirate books with a splash of romance and a drop of adventure, this book is for you! This is not an obvious plot even though it has some predictable moments. I was surprised by how much I appreciated the descriptions (they were not extensive and Young writes poetically) and I'm going as far as to say that the best factor about this book is the world the author builds.
It has an inclusive range of characters even though it could've been better (we spend to much time focused on Fable's story that we don't have enough Oscar and Paj's moments). I also wish it had more diverse characters in the sense that it felt like the author didn't pay much attention to the character's physiognomy.

I actually quite liked this book. I liked the author's style of writing, I liked the characters, and I liked the story. Fable's world is one that I am completely unfamiliar with; the life as a deckhand, the need for total apathy, and it was very interesting reading about it. It seems to me (as someone who knows nothing about this world) that the author surely did their research.

This book follows Fable, the daughter of a successful sea merchant and a dredger. She has to find her way in the world throughout the book, from getting off the island she started on to finding her true family and perhaps even realizing that feelings are both beautiful and dangerous.

Excellent book, would recommend if you enjoy YA fiction.

If I could give it zero stars, I would. There is no character depth and no plot development. It is the worst book I have ever read/listened to. Because of the lack of depth, you couldn’t get invested into the story at all. The storyline was similar to other YA fiction that I have enjoyed and had the potential but it fell completely flat!!!! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND (unless you have read everything and even then I would suggest you go watch paint dry first).
