      My mom told me Pete the Cat is ugly and doesn't even look like a cat. This criticism is a bit harsh; however, Pete is a particularly lanky and blue cat. Illustrations aside, both my mother and I agree that the story is a good one. Pete has a new pair of white sneakers. He loves his shoes and sings a song about this love. He then steps on a variety of colorful objects and his shoes change colors. Pete is never unhappy about this; he just loves his shoes whatever color they may be and sings his song about them. Basically, Pete is a mellow cat.I plan to read Pete the Cat at my baby story time. It is a simple color identification story with a repeating song which babies will enjoy and parents can quickly pick up to sing along. Logistically, I might bulk Pete up when he becomes a flannel object so that babies can easily identify him as a cat. Having said this, I think the books illustrations are unique and a bit goofy and lend to the mellow, hippie ambiance of the story. Recommended Ages: 1-7

      Pete the cat takes an adventure one day with his lovely white shoes. He comes to discover that his white shoes would not stay white for long but would change many different colors. During this processes Pete does not get mad that his shoes don't stay white but accepts that they have changed colors and likes it. Great lesson to learn about not getting mad about the small things and to find something good about the situation. Recommended to get the song with it, it is very catchy and the children will love it.

      Pete the Cat takes a stroll in his white shoes (as cats do) and has a habit of not looking where he's stepping. Despite stepping in a range of colorful substances that stain his beloved white shoes, Pete maintains a positive attitude.The repetition, positive message (and Pete's great attitude), and song make this a book that works well for children in a wide range of ages, from toddlers to preschoolers (and maybe even beyond). After reading it during dozens of storytimes, it has yet to fail. Also allows children to strengthen prediction skills and works well in storytimes/circle times with children on the autism spectrum.

      Pete the Cat has a pair of white shoes and steps in all sorts of things and changes the color of them. This book is great for young children, with a song included along in the story. This book is very predictable and great for young elementary school children.

      I had heard such great things about "Pete the Cat" books, however, I found them to be okay and not spectacular. I was looking for a little more depth in the plot of the story and it felt as though something was missing. I do like the great illustrations and the moral at then end of the story. My three year old daughter loves to say the repeated text along with me.

      This book has a very Don’t Worry be Happy feel and I love it. Strawberries, blueberries, and mud do not matter as long as you keep walking. A great message and a fun story.

      Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes, written by Eric Litwin and illustrated by James Dean (2010) is a funny, catchy, darling tale about Pete the Cat and his white shoes. Even though he steps in strawberries, blueberries, mud, and water, he just keeps on singing. This is a great read aloud, and children will catch on to its repetitive storyline right away, perhaps joining in during the read aloud. Pete the Cat sends a great and simple message, too, that no matter what happens, "it's all good." Grades PreK-2.

      This story is awesome! I love the songs the cat sings about his shoes each time they change color and how Pete just goes with the flow as things change. The moral of the story is the best at the end. This a must read and one that you will enjoy re-reading and sharing with others!

      Best if read aloud while listening to Jack Johnson. It has that feel. Pete the cat has some shiny new kicks, beautifully white, and then accidents happen and he finds in time his shoes are turning different colours, until he walks through water, and the water cleanses the soul (sole)-of the shoe. Throughout the book Pete the cat is undeterred by change, he just rolls with it because it's already happened and there is nothing he can do. Feels sort of hippie new age to read, but has a good message for kids.

In this book the main character is Pete the cat who just got new white shoes. But, they do not stay white in the story, he steps in many different things that keep changing his shoes color. This book has a theme of, no matter what you step in, keep walking along and singing your song... because it's all good. This is a great book to read to children ages 3-7. In this book, even though Pete keeps getting his shoes dirty, he keeps going and doesn't let it bother him. Pete just keeps walking along and singing his song.

      Well, ok, um, doesn't transcend intended demographic well? Cute enough, but even though I like Pete's mellow & groovy attitude, I just wasn't all that impressed by the book. Going online to hear the song didn't help, either, unfortunately.

      "Pete the Cat" is a story about a cat who has a pair of white shoes that he loves. As he is walking around he keeps stepping in things and getting them dirty but Pete does not get upset. I loved this book, we read it in class.

      This story is about Pete the Cat, who has white shoes, he steps in all sorts of things that change the color of his shoes. This book is great for young children, and is even better with an audio version. It brings the story to life, the song is also very wonderful and the story is easy to follow and predictable.

      Cool-cat Pete is moseying along one day, in his white shoes, singing a song, when (Oh no!) he steps in a pile of blueberries, and ends up with blue shoes instead. Rather than cry, Peter changes his tune, now celebrating his blue shoes, and when he steps in a pile of strawberries, alters his outlook once again. Come what may, Pete is one feline who knows how to relax, and roll with the punches!The singsong narrative of Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes will lend itself to reading aloud, and will undoubtedly please younger children, who will be charmed by the cadence of the text, and engrossed by its repetition. The colorful artwork by James Dean is likewise engaging, with a humorous, slinky quality that suits its subject. All in all, this is a sweet little book, one that effortlessly conveys the message, through its entertaining text, that the disappointments and challenges of life can be made less onerous by the right attitude. Recommended to cool cats, younger children who are learning their colors, or story-hour listeners who enjoy singsong-style picture-books.

      Pete the Cat is a groovy animal. He loves his new white shoes, but when he walks through a pile of blueberries, he doesn't lose his cool. He decides he loves his blue shoes, too. When he walks through strawberries, his shoes turn red, and when he walks through mud, his shoes turn brown. Pete takes each change of fortune with typical aplomb, loving his shoes no matter their color or feel. The story ends by explicitly formulating the lesson the story has been teaching, that The book has a good message and a text that is narrated with rhythm and beat, not surprising since it is also a song. The combination of all these factors creates a wonderful story that is perfect for reading aloud. Pete the cat is funky and mellow, his character in keeping with his song, making him extremely likable. My girls and I love to bop along to this book, and I appreciate that the story teaches children to be more accepting about change, and to try to see the positive aspects in all situations.

      This book is and absolutely amazing, because it instantly hooks the reader. I could use this book with young readers to demonstrate how to make and confirm predictions. This book also, gives the reader a lot of opportunity to read with expression. There is also, a CD that goes with this book.

      This book is super fun and it is good with helping children to start to learn their colors. It even comes with an audio tape and music and a guy reading and singing the story to the children. This book also has a good message behind it, no matter what happens good or bad just keep on walking with your end up and enjoy the outcomes. This book is also repetitive so the children really get into it.

      As Pete the Cat sees his white shoes change from red to blue to brown to wet, no worries... it's all good in his world. The understated cat is in fine form and primary students will love the catchy chorus that is an integral part of the story.

      I love Pete the Cat! Rockin' in my White/Red/Blue.......Shoes!!! I actually got to read this with a class and they loved it (maybe not as much as me but close). It is a fun book to interact with. You can kind of sing the book along as you go. I have not really read any other Pete the Cat books, but I like this one a lot.

      A fun book featuring a cat as the main character. This is part of a series of books gear towards grades preK-2nd grade. It's an interactive book so it would make a great read aloud.

      Pete the Cat is a pretty low-key guy. While he loves his white shoes so much that he sings about it, when he steps in stuff and they change colors it doesn't phase him one bit. Whether his shoes are white, red, blue, brown or even wet, Pete keeps singing his song and enjoying life.

      The guessing and song elements make this a great pick for storytime - the kids loved to shout out the color of Pete's shoes as they changed and they bopped right along to the little tune I made up for Pete's song. There's a retro/hipster type feel to Pete's character. Illustrations are by James Dean who has apparently been drawing and watercoloring Pete for a long time in other forms of art. The whole effect is a little quirky which means it won't be to everyone's taste, but I think it's fun.

      My niece Natalie recommended Pete the Cat books. She asked me if I knew Pete the Cat and was so disappointed that I did not. I have now remedied this gap in my knowledge. It is super cute. The fuzzy artwork with no defined lines gives the book whimsy. The fact that Pete does not have an expression makes the story funny. The words without the pictures, are kind of lame. With the pictures, this book is very amusing and teach kids to appreciate what unexpected events come their way.

      I'm enjoying this book much more than I thought I would. My grandson likes it immensely, making me read it more than once in the same day. He loves when I sing parts of it as well. He himself can identify with the part of the story in which Pete the cat's shoes turn brown from the mud. The illustrations are adorable and the cat's remarks (i.e. Groovy! Awesome! etc.) are quite fun. This is a just right book for young children who love cats and are learning colors.

      This book is pretty good. I think it is a great book to make a child love reading, but doesn’t make the reader think about any issue or bigger idea. The plot flows, and we get to know Pete pretty well throughout the story. The main message is positive attitude, as Pete the Cat walks through town and loves his shoes no matter what color they turn. He sings a song over and over, which is a great way to gain reader involvement.

      This story also comes with a CD that plays a song as you read it. This is a new picture book that I think has many different central messages. For example, the first message is about social-emotional skills and how to let the non-important things in life go. Pete the cat loves his new white shoes, but as he is walking, he accidentally gets all sorts of things on his shoes which turn them different colors. The author writes, "Did Pete cry? Goodness, NO!" The story shoes children that there are certain social situations we can't always control and that getting upset is not the answer. I also liked this book because it helps children see and understand colors. When Pete the cat steps on some strawberries his shoes turn red, when he steps in some mud his shoes turn brown.

      This is a good introductory book for emerging readers. It has repetition and rhythm, and allows students to comprehend meaning and words of book. It also has a good moral behind the story to stay positive and love what you have!
