About this audiobook
A Cape Cod shop owner and her book club must find a crafty killer in this charming new series from the Agatha-nominated author of the Country Store Mystery series.
Summer is busy season for Mackenzie "Mac" Almeida's bicycle shop, nestled in the quaint, seaside hamlet of Westham, Massachusetts. She's expecting an influx of tourists at Mac's Bikes; instead she discovers the body of Jake Lacey. Mac can't imagine anyone stabbing the down-on-his-luck handyman. However, the authorities seem to think Mac is a strong suspect after she was spotted arguing with Jake just hours before his death. Mac knows she didn't do it, but she does recognize the weapon-her brother Derrick's fishing knife.
Mac's only experience with murder investigations is limited to the cozy mysteries she reads with her local book group, the Cozy Capers. So to clear her name-and maybe her brother's too-Mac will have to summon help from her Cozy Capers coinvestigators and a library's worth of detectives' tips and tricks. For a small town, Westham is teeming with possible killers, and this is one mystery where Mac is hoping for anything but a surprise ending . . .

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was my first book by this author. I liked how descriptive she was included in her narrative. Kept you guessing who done it. Will be adding her to my list of authors
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Cute, cozy, worthy looking at one more in the series when it comes out. Plot wasn't too taxing, but held my interest. I usually don't stick with lone ranger non licensed private eyes, but this one stayed in the lines and I was ok with that.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5A mystery book club sets out to solve a murder discovered following a meeting. On a foggy evening, Mackenzie, owner of a bicycle shop in a Cape Cod tourist town, nearly tripped over the man. She recognizes the knife that stabbed the man as her brother's custom-made one. Her father pastors a church and her mother works as an astrologist--a rather unusual combination. The mystery's writing lacks cohesiveness, and its solution seems obvious.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I just could not get into this book. I couldn't cennect the the characters. I admit I only read half of this book. Maybe if I put the book aside and try again another time I'll have beter luck.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Many characters are introduced in this first book of a new series, and it will be interesting to see how many make it into the next book. Mackenzie owns and runs a bike shop in a tourist town by the sea in Massachusetts. Her boyfriend has a bakery, her dad is the pastor of a Unitarian-Universalist church, her mother does astrology readings, and her brother, a single dad to his four-year-old daughter, lives in a lighthouse and works for Mac in the bike shop. Mac’s best friend runs the candy store. And they, along with some other interesting people, belong to a cozy mystery discussion group. When one of the town’s people is found dead, the group thinks they can solve the murder. Next in the character line up are some suspicious strangers and some people who have a connection to the town or its inhabitants. It’s a twisty road to the murderous solution, complete with a red herring or two along the way. I liked this book not only for its engrossing mystery, but especially for its unusual mix of characters and their backgrounds. The main protagonist’s boyfriend is not connected with law enforcement, and her pet of choice is an African Gray parrot. And Mac actually works in her shop, rather than just stopping by now and then, and still manages some time off to spend with her boyfriend and other friends and family. All that makes the characters seem more real. The whole setup is a breathe of fresh air for the cozy mystery reader to enjoy.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Mackenzie (Mac) Almeida is a member of the Cozy Capers book club -- a group of locals that meets to talk about cozy mysteries in the fictional Cape Cod (Mass.) tourist town of Westham and when there's a local murder, they decide to do a little investigating of their own. (My guess is Westham is modeled on Wareham because of the Cape Verdean community Mac is part of.) This is the competent start of a new series, with a well-rounded cast of characters and an appealing setting. For me, personally, there wasn't enough humor in the book, but I'm only an occasional reader of cozies, and I like them to be humorous. I didn't guess the answer to the mystery! By experienced author Edith Maxwell writing as Maddie Day, Murder on Cape Cod is a good one for the beach bag!
