About this audiobook
Take the guesswork (and fear) out of fasting with real-life and expert advice.
In recent years, intermittent fasting—restricting calorie intake for a set number of hours or days—has become an increasingly popular diet strategy. While some in the medical community initially dismissed the idea as a dangerous fad, recent research not only validates the safety of fasting for weight loss but also offers compelling evidence of wide-ranging health benefits, from reversal of diabetes and other metabolic disorders to enhanced cognitive function and increased longevity.
But for many who are eager to try out fasting, the regimen can feel a bit intimidating. After all, abstaining from food doesn’t sound like much fun. People rightly wonder: How often can I eat? Will I be able to focus at work? Will I have enough energy to exercise? And perhaps the most concerning question of all: Won’t I be hungry all the time?!
Enter Dr. Jason Fung—world-renowned fasting expert—his colleague, Megan Ramos, and Eve Mayer, who has experienced the life-changing benefits of fasting through Dr. Fung’s program. Together, they’ve teamed up to write a one-of-a-kind guide that answers the most common questions people have about fasting—and offers a customizable program that provides real results.
In Life in the Fasting Lane, Dr. Fung, Ramos, and Mayer take the reader by the hand and walk them through the basics of a fasting lifestyle—from the science behind fasting as a health and weight loss strategy to the real-life choices and dilemmas people commonly encounter. While Dr. Fung and Ramos explain the fundamentals of fasting and offer a customizable approach, Mayer shares her in-the-trenches perspective and hard-won knowledge as a success story who turned her life around with fasting.
With chapters that address everything from meal planning to mental strategies; exercise to socializing, Life in the Fasting Lane is a unique and accessible guide to developing a sustainable and beneficial fasting routine that offers dramatic, lifelong results.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Just finished the entire book - I was introduced to Dr.Jason Fung by my fiance - who has completed various fasts including one that was 12 days long. Not only did he lose weight, what's more, important is that his mood and certain ailments had corrected themselves. This book is an extremely great starting point and the mix of Dr.Fung, Megan Ramos, and Eve Meyer gives you the various medical and sociological, and psychological insights needed to understand the benefits of incorporating fasting in your life.
I have fasted in the past and can truly attest to most of what is claimed to be very true. I am not an overweight person, and I never have been. What I gained most from this book is to alter my relationship with food and to take seriously my health and healing my body and mind using fasting - just like it does for my fiance.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent book full of great info and scientific knowledge. If you are new to fasting, make sure to listen to the last 1/3 of the book, but if you are getting a refresher, you can skip the how to at the end

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Ok there are a few gems in this on fasting but sheeeeeeshhh! How many stories and anecdotes can you fit in one book?! Way over the top too… “I noticed the sky, how it was purple in the evening and pink at morning.”
Also the advocation of diet preference for low carb, keto, etc (keto was voted least effective and most dangerous diet for longevity and all cause mortality recently). The beautiful thing about fasting, and consistent with Dr. Fong’s teaching, is the flexibility with food choice.
This was not for me. If you want to go skipping through the lord of the rings version of a diet book while eating bacon and mainlining lard knock yourself out. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is a great eye opener . Thank you.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing book. I listened to this book while going through my first month of fasting. I found encouragement and answers as I went through the withdrawals. Best of all I have moved blood glucose down significantly and have learned how to maintain a healthy blood glucose through fasting and keto dieting. Very thankful for this book as I was very discouraged with my health before starting to fast.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Interesting reading, and extremely informative. I recommend it highly. Salud!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Omg!
What a book!
I started listening to it on Wednesday morning.
It is soooo motivating!
I started fasting on Wednesday.
Looking forward to the next book and I am expecting great results! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The authors express the same problems as we daily faced
Report challenges similar to those we feel.
Explain to overcome obstacles.
Make us feel we can do it.
Truly recommend. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book! Great skills for life! You will enjoy it!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I found some good guidance, factual information, and new science in the early chapters, but after about chapter 15 or 16 I couldn't help but just skip through every chapter. In my opinion, maybe for me only, I found that in the late chapters it was just some unneeded baby coaching. Maybe some people need that but I hope not many adults. Two of the writers seemed to be still trying to find their way and have not reached their goals themselves, which is completely fine. They're working towards their goals which is great and maybe some of this type of coaching and helping along got them to this point. However, in my opinion, I think it's a bit too soon for them to start writing their own books. Maybe this was part of what put me off about the second half of the book. Maybe some people get comfort in knowing that the writer or coach is kind of still there with them. I would like to thank you for the knowledge that I did gain from this book. Maybe I was expecting to much. Thank you!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It's really a great book with excellent huge amount of information
But they talked too much about themselves and some of there stories
However, it's the best book I have ever seen about fasting! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book helped me to understand how are bodies are natural designed for fasting. It’s not a scary punishment.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent and effective book on fasting. Easy to follow with real world examples.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great medically accurate info that is practical and easier to incorporated
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing and life-changing
i love the actionable step, tips as well as brave declaration against surgeries. Awesome work! - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Me ha ayudado con el proyecto de ayuno intermitente aportando una perspectiva más del día a día a lo ya comentado por el Dr. Fung en sus libros.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book. Very informative and clear. Different perspectives on fasting and great tips.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A very good, quick read in which Dr Fung recaps much of the scientific information available in the Obesity Code in lighter, more digestible (ha ha) language, interspersed with emotional support, tips, and stories shared by his two co-authors, both of whom have more personal and up-close experience with the topic. The result is a nice blend of friendly you-can-do-this guidance with a broad covering of the science that together serves to clearly illuminate the damaging myths, bad science, shaming biases and self-defeating practices surrounding obesity, nutrition and dieting that persist in contemporary culture.A very good read and one I would highly recommend for anyone who fasts already, is interested in fasting, or wants to learn more about the subject.
