About this audiobook

"He has to be ready for it, Jess," I say, my voice low and quiet.

Jesse nods. "I know. It's just that I'm a fixer, and his broken-ass heart is the one thing I can't fix."

"No one can," I say. "I can't fix his broken heart. He has to be willing to be with me with a whole heart. There'd be pieces missing, and seams and cracks, but offered as a whole. I'm worth more than just taking the screwed up mess of him, just to have part. I want more than that-I deserve more. If he can get there, I'll be here waiting. I've got nothing but time, Jess. I'm not going anywhere, and I told him that. I'm willing to wait-because I think he's worth waiting for."

Except I've already waited so long. For him-for anyone, but especially for him. Endured so much. Spent so long alone, and lonely. And now James is right there, but still out of reach. My heart wants him, my body wants him, but my fears say he'll only hurt me. And he himself says he's not sure he'll ever be able to get over the past-losing his wife. I don't blame him, but . . .

How long can I wait? And if he does come around, will it be worth it?

(James & Nova): TRIGGERS: cancer. I have to say this was my least favorite of the series. James is the owner of Dad Bod construction and the single father of the group. After losing his wife, who was also Jessie's sister, he basically shut himself off from any relationship outside of his daughters and his boys. Nova is new to the group and has been pretty mysterious up until now. All we know is that she's "been through some shit" ??. Despite the not so subtle pushing by the group, James and Nova have managed to fight the strong chemistry they have for each other. Then, certain circumstances put them in each other's paths more than usual and it becomes hard to resist. Now it's where the book becomes boring, repetitive and slowly burned. Both characters are grieving in their own ways and they are both not really dealing with their grief. The book becomes a constant replay of their grief and their former relationships. But they want to be together. Which is difficult. I understand grief, I've been through it but with as much talking they did about their relationships, it became less of a romantic comedy and more of a dark romance. It was very depressing. Don't get me wrong though, James and Nova are extremely hot together but with as much buildup they did over the last three books to try to get these two together, I expected a lot more. I'm sad the series ended this way.
