About this audiobook

When Darkness Falls . . .

Cathal MacNachton and Connall MacAdie are cousins bound by far more than blood ties and the rugged Highland landscape their clan calls home. The ancient curse of their ancestry has fated them to live by night with an unquenchable thirst that neither can tame. The only thing that can save their souls is marriage to Outsiders-mortals whose untainted blood will weaken the curse in their children and break the chains of fear that have made their clan a breed apart.

Bridget Callan and Eva Caxton are the women who will shape the clan's destiny. Marriage to these strange and mysterious men will rescue each of them from desperate circumstances-and draw them into a web of danger, desire, and intrigue . . .

Contains mature themes.

There are actually two stories here. One, 'Nightriders' is written by Hannah Howell and the second, 'The Highland Bride' is by Linsay Sands. Both are excellent reads with great characters and a good story line that ties the two stories together. In 'Nightriders' we meet, Cathal the laird of his clan. He has decided that to decrease the severity of Vampire like characteristics that he will pass to his children he needs to marry an 'outsider', a mortal. Now that he has decided what to do, he needs to find a bride. It just so happens that as luck would have it... his men have found a woman on his property who seems to be the only survivor of a robbery gone bad. The men bring her to his bedroom and deposit her on the bed telling him that they have found a bride for him. Bridget Callan takes a little convincing though. Its a fun read. In 'The Highland Bride', Eva's brother has decided to send her to the convent as he doesn't want to have to put out any money for a dowry. So far he has been unable to attract any suitors and it looks like he will give her to the church. The day before she is to leave, six men from Connall MacAdie's clan arrive to arrange for a marriage between Eva and Connall, their laird. Connall is a close neighbor and cousin to Cathal MacNachton and has also decided to marry an 'outsider'. Eva's brother drives a hard bargain, but finally agrees on the amount that Connall will pay for his bride and quickly has the papers signed by Connall's representatives and a quick wedding is performed with Connall's brother-in-law acting as proxy. This is also a well written and fun story, with great characters and a very interesting story line.

This book is actually two stories. One is by Hannah Howell and one by Lynsay Sands. You can read in any order. I love vampire stories and my favorite type of romance is one with a paranormal theme. This seemed, and was, a perfect fit. Both stories have the same setting in Scotland and each story is about a different clan of vampires. The vampires have interbred so much over the centuries that it has become extremely rare for a birth to occur. These are the story of the two clan leaders looking for a bride that will bring fresh blood into the clan. Interesting plot and a fun read. Loved the characters, they are just my type of vampire. I would categorize this as a beach read. Yes it is total fluff and I enjoyed it. Perfect for the fan of paranormal romance.

"The 1st story by Hannah Howell was great it drew me in and kept me reading and wanting more but when I got to the second story by Lynsay Sands, whose historical novels I dearly love, I felt let down. There was none of the humor that I look for in her stories and the the writing was just bland. Oh well I guess you can't like them all :o) For this reason this book only got 3 stars from me."
