About this audiobook

A supernatural force—set in motion a century ago—threatens to devastate New York City in this spine-tingling national bestseller that “grips from the first page” (Stephen King, #1 New York Times bestselling author).

Far upstate, in New York’s ancient forests, a drowned village lays beneath the dark, still waters of the Chilewaukee reservoir. Early in the 20th century, the town was destroyed for the greater good: bringing water to the millions living downstate. Or at least that’s what the politicians from Manhattan insisted at the time. The local families, settled there since America’s founding, were forced from their land, but some didn’t leave…

Now, a century later, the repercussions of human arrogance are finally making themselves known. An inspector assigned to oversee the dam, dangerously neglected for decades, witnesses something inexplicable. It turns out that more than the village was left behind in the waters of the Chill when it was abandoned. A dark prophecy remained, too, and the time has come for it to be fulfilled—for sacrifices must be made. And as the dark waters begin to inexorably rise, the demand for a fresh sacrifice emerges from the deep.

Unputdownable and suspenseful, “The Chill is an eerie dive into the murky depths of the supernatural. A story that has you looking back over your shoulder on every page” (Michael Connelly, #1 New York Times bestselling author).

Very well developed for a very mild ghost story. Excellent character development and dramatic twists to the storyline. There is a lot of technical aspects to the dam and its physical maintenance/water calculations but it added another level to this author's story telling. I found it interesting and not a hinderance to flow of the story. I Loved the narrator who didn't do much in the way of voice alteration but kept the reader engaged. This is not a scary story for horror buffs but is recommended to all who love a good story and this one was certainly one of them.

This was an interesting read. It was not the best I've read but it did keep up the suspense so it kept me interested in finishing it. I did not like how some things were not explained at the end but I think the author intentionally leaves it up to us to infer.

Great start, but it lags in the middle. Way too long.

Pretty good story with complex plot and characters. Not your usual ghost story. It is evident that the author had done his research quite extensively. It's a little slow in some places, but the mystery keeps you reading until the end.

I feel it was long and drawn out, but I couldn't stop reading it at the same time.

This is one of the best novels I’ve read in a long time. Delightfully creepy, with just the right balance of ghost story and thriller. You can tell that the author really researched this topic to build his world. I really enjoyed the character development and pretty much everything about this book.
