About this audiobook
The idea that you could be more but got in your own way should wake you up in the middle of the night. Dave Hollis used to think that “personal growth” was just for broken people, then he woke up.
When a looming career funk, a growing drinking problem, and a challenging trek through therapy battered Dave Hollis, a Disney executive and father of four, he began to realize he was letting untruths about himself dictate his life. As he sank to the bottom of his valley, he had to make a choice. Would he push himself out of his comfort zone to become the best man he was capable of being, or would he play it safe and settle for mediocrity?
In Get Out of Your Own Way, Dave tackles topics he once found it difficult to be honest about, things like his struggles with alcohol and his insecurities about being a dad.
Offering encouragement, challenges, and a hundred moments to laugh, Dave will help you:
- Discover the way for those of us who are, like he was, skeptical of self-help but wanting something more than the status quo
- Drop negative ideas about who we are supposed to be and finally start living as who we really are
- See our own journeys more clearly as he unpacks the lies he once believed—such as “I Have to Have It All Together” and “Failure Means You’re Weak”
- Learn the tools that helped him change his life, and may change your life too
Get Out of Your Own Way is a call to arms for anyone who’s interested in a more fulfilled life, who, along the way, may have lost their “why” and now wonders how to unlock their potential or be better for their loved ones.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am only on chapter 4 and everything is so relatable. I joined a book club with other 200 people and he made time to kick off the experience. He was so real and open to have an honest conversation! I love being able to interact with authors that show up as what they are, just people like us, the readers. Awesome

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I only decided to read this from the reviews, and I’m a bit disappointed. If you haven’t read Rachel’s books, and are a bit skeptical on self help books, this book would be a good fit.
As someone who has read Rachel’s books, this book felt very much like a copy. Yes I understand they’re married so much will be the same, but one of the things Rachel talks about it how she goes into overdrive to make him happy, then he starts to talk about how he has to fix anything that’s wrong...
Also mentioning not to listen to the advice of people when it comes to relationships if theirs isn’t great... hes now getting a divorce... go figure.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I am fairly certain that anything Dave or Rachel write, I would read. Those two are the only two authors I have EVER waited on for a book to come out. I have always been the type to just grab the next thing on the shelf but those two never cease to amaze me. I am female and I still enjoyed very much reading this one! Can’t wait to see what more is written in the future!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Highly recommended just like the author's wife's book. This couple is a great model to emulate. Salute to Mr. Dave Hollis. Reading from a man's perspective is quite foreign to me but this really gave me good insights which I am also excited to share to my partner. Really a good read.
