About this audiobook

The Memo is the much-needed career advice guide for women of color specifically, finally ending the one-size-fits-all approach of business books that lump together women across races and overlook the unique barriers to success for women of color.

In a charismatic and relatable voice, Minda Harts brings her entrepreneurial experience as CEO of The Memo to the page, as well as her past career life as a fundraising consultant to top colleges across the country. With wit and candor, Harts begins by acknowledging the ugly truths that keep women of color from getting the proverbial seat at the table in corporate America: micro-aggressions, systemic racism, white privilege, etc. Harts validates that women aren't making up the discrimination they feel, even if it isn't always overt. From there, she gives straight talk on how to address these issues head-on and provides a roadmap to help women of color and their allies make real change to the system. With chapters on network-building, office politics, money, and negotiation, this overview covers all the basics that any good business book should. But through the author's lens, it offers support and long-overdue advice particularly for women of color.

Great book and so relevant. I found myself pausing to take notes quite a few times. Love when our personal experiences are highlighted and when someone uses their platform to share in a way that hopefully impacts others. Great read!

This should be an automatic graduation gift for ANY WOC . I wish I had this when I was in college! The author writes with candor and research. As a woman of faith, it was nice to hear someone not edit out any part of their personality to covey a message to the masses. It helped me relate to her and appreciate her so much more.

I loved and hated The Memo. Loved it because it spoke to my experience in corporate America. Hated it because it reminded me of all I had to go through in corporate America as a Black woman. The book had actionable steps, steps I didn’t feel comfortable making, hence why I have started my own company, but I felt anyone navigating the corporate steps needs to take. I liked the culture references. I liked that she thanked Beyoncé. I believed Blue Ivy should have been thanked as well but... that’s my opinion.

This audiobook was highly impactful to my life. Listening to Minda unapologetically talk about workplace inequities for Women of Color and how the plight has been overlooked in the general Women’s movement is something that I’ve always felt but never articulated. Minda gave my thoughts a voice and has inspired me so much from writing this book. Minda is REAL. She doesn’t mince her words and that is refreshing and informative in the most intimate way. I could not get enough of this book. I have reached out to a career coach and I’m on my way to a seat at the table.

I wish I had this book before I "Leaned Out" of the corporate world. As a formal HR recruiter I want this book taught in every HR class and in every employee handbook of every business large and small. Well done Minda! This was amazing and so spot on!

"The Memo" by Minda Harts was absolutely outstanding!! I feel like she followed me around during my 26 year tenure in Corporate America, putting every thought, interaction and aspiration in my head ON PAPER!! There is a book inside of me, started and stopped for at least 15 years now. "The Memo" has reignited the fire to finish it! Stay tuned.... TWMartin
