About this audiobook

Christians who are confused by the homosexuality debate raging in the U.S. are looking for resources that are based solidly on a deep study of what Scripture says about the issue. In People to Be Loved, Preston Sprinkle challenges those on all sides of the debate to consider what the Bible says and how we should approach the topic of homosexuality in light of it.

In a manner that appeals to a scholarly and lay-audience alike, Preston takes on difficult questions such as how should the church treat people struggling with same-sex attraction? Is same-sex attraction a product of biological or societal factors or both? How should the church think about larger cultural issues, such as gay marriage and gay pride? How (or if) Christians should do business with LGBT persons and supportive companies?

Simply saying that the Bible condemns homosexuality is not accurate, nor is it enough to end the debate. Those holding a traditional view still struggle to reconcile the Bible's prohibition of same-sex attraction with the message of radical, unconditional grace. This book meets that need.

I am a Christian man who has struggled with same-sex attraction and I have been looking for biblical answers as I wrestle with how God and other Christians view me. I found that sprinkles book, or audiobook, gave me a biblically sound interpretation of the various Bible passages that mention homosexuality in one form or another. However, the author does it in a way that communicates unconditional love and support 4 people with same-sex attraction. I found his writing to be such a welcome relief after reading many books on the subject, and listening too many podcasts as well meaning preachers who unwittingly, through their careless words, reinforce what I had always felt, that I would not be welcome in a church if people really knew about my same-sex attraction. I would highly recommend sprinkles book to all those who want to hear a well-balanced, biblically sound discussion on the issue of Christianity and gay people.

I have read/listened to many books on this topic. As a man who has wrestled with same sex attraction and faith in Christ for most of my life, I found Preston’s views and interpretations of scripture to be honest, fair and compassionate.
I believe this a book the church needs to read. This is a book for Christians.

A good book and a necessary conversion.
    A quote from the book.
“What chilling hypocrisy: some Christians who have “excess of food, and prosperous ease” and fail to “aid the poor and needy”— the sins that caused heaven to rumble—have the audacity to condemn gay people when, according to the Bible, they [Christians] are the real Sodomites. Six thousand children die daily from hunger and preventable diseases. Still, some Christians shed more tears over the repeal of DOMA and Prop 8.”

A few decent moments of advocating general decency in living all humans, but otherwise his thinking is about as generous and benevolent as a ‘soft’ complementarian is to women. Sprinkle completely dismisses the patriarchal reality of history that must inform this discussion. Bland appeals to evangelical inerrancy/Sola scriptura is all that remains.

As a bonus he even uses “Pharisee” as a slur. Very disappointed in this book.

As a chaplain by profession and a mother with a 23 year old son who believes he is a woman, it is very important to me to consider the biblical truth and the most up to date, compassionate way to handle this topic. I found this book very well present, with many areas to reflect on.

Great book. I am not gay, but I am celibate (and have been for the pas 5 years) I can relate to the issues and suffering discussed in this book and I think the author did a great job at exposing and explaining all the facets of the subject matter.
