About this audiobook

Dying isn't what it used to be.

Wes Cooper was dead. Then he wasn't-though he's not exactly alive, either. As an immortal not-ghost, he can transition between this world and the otherplane, which makes him the perfect thief for hire. For seventy years he's made a "living" returning items to their rightful owners, seeing his fair share of the bizarre in the process. But he's never witnessed murder. Until now.

His latest mission brings him more than he bargained for: a very-dead actor who is definitely going to stay that way. It's just Wes's luck that his ex-boyfriend, Detective Hudson Rojas, is assigned to the case. Hudson broke Wes's heart years ago-and could again, given he's rocking a hot silver-fox look that shouldn't be legal.

As they work together to track down the murderer before anyone else gets hurt, it becomes clear Wes and Hudson have unfinished business. And when a secret Hudson's been keeping threatens more than just their happiness, it might mean the end of their not-life together-permanently.

Contains mature themes.

Jenn Burke

Jenn Burke has loved out-of-this-world romance since she was a preteen reading about heroes and heroines kicking butt and falling in love. She’s been called a pocket-sized and puntastic Canadian, and she’ll happily own that label. Jenn lives just outside of Ottawa, Ontario, with her husband and two kids, plus two dogs named after video game characters…because her geekiness knows no bounds.

Imma finish, but there are a few big groan moments that are making it less than totally enjoyable. Just my personal responses here.

The narrator is wonderful, and I appreciated the voices he gave the characters.

I'm discovering I really appreciate a demisexual/ace? as a main character, as I get more "foreplay" in the relationship in general.

I hate it when books get to a moment of "choose between the fate of millions and the death of your dear one". Ugh.

Oh yeah, I'm going to let the city/country/world go to he'll because I just can't face my dear one being murdered.

It's just lame and used over and over again in stories. And you know they're always all gonna live anyway because this is a romance, so it doesn't really result in much worry in the reader.

I got so bored of Wes's character by the end. I didn't even bother listening to the last bit - their sex just wasn't interesting.

    The story:
It's been a while since a book gripped me like this. It was a perfect blend of paranormal mystery and romance, with imperfect but lovable (side and main!) characters and engaging writing. I put my entire day on hold and listened to the story in one sitting. In one word - awesome!

    The audio:
I've listened to stuff narrated by Greg Boudreaux before, but he was never so perfect for a character as he is for Wes Cooper. Great narration.

    Overall impression: 4.5 stars!

The main character (the "twink") is just horrid yes even for a fictional person. Didnt even finish the book

Loved the plot and the magic, but the character growth was what made me give this 5stars.

Scribd recommended this to me because I read Hunger Pangs (Fluff edition), so I basically readied myself to mock the algorithm for once again failing to grasp the reason why I loved Hunger Pangs by simply going "gay vampire romance - yeah that'll fit". But alas, despite generic, fairly bland romance cover and other paratextual clues which situated this in a completely different genre to what I'm into, this novel turned out to be everything I didn't know I wanted.
This, arguably, really *is* a gay vampire romance, but that's not the unnameable quality it shares with Hunger Pangs. Guess you'll have to read it to find out.

(P.S.: audiobook, narrated in Canadian accent to go with Toronto setting. ?)

It was ok. Don’t think I’ll continue with the series. I couldn’t connect with the main characters and their thought processes/actions where just so different from mine I couldn’t get behind them.

I thought this was clever and well balanced between world/romance/suspense
