About this audiobook
New York Times Bestseller
Fame. Sex. Pain. Drugs. Death. Booze. Money. Addiction. Redemption. Dizzying heights. Rock-bottom depths. Desperation and elation—sometimes in the same hour. Not to mention power . . . and the struggle for it.
The world knows Lamar Odom as a two-time NBA world champion who rocketed to uncharted heights of fame thanks to being a member of both the storied Los Angeles Lakers and the ubiquitous Kardashian empire.
But who is Lamar, really?
Fans have long praised his accessibility and genuine everyman quality—he is a blinding talent who has suffered a series of heartaches, setback, and loss. But until now, his most candid moments have remained behind closed doors . . . sometimes face-down on the floor.
In Darkness to Light, Lamar gives readers an intimate look into his life like never before. His exclusive and revealing memoir recounts the highs and lows of fame and his struggle with his demons along the way to self-discovery and redemption. From the pain of his unraveled marriage to Khloé Kardashian to the harmful vices he used to cope—and the near-death experience that made him rethink everything about his life—this is Lamar as you have never before seen him.
Lamar brings basketball fans directly into the action of a game during the Lakers championship years. He shares his personal account of the lifelong passion that started as one shining light in a childhood marked by loss and led to his international fame as one of the most extraordinary athletes of all time. In this profoundly honest book, Lamar invites you to walk with him through the good times and bad, while looking ahead to a brighter future.
Editor's Note
Fall from grace…
Lamar Odom was one of New York’s top basketball recruits who would eventually be hospitalized after being found unconscious at a brothel. In this honest memoir, he describes his life on and off the court, from the dark underbelly of amateur basketball to superstardom as an NBA champion and through his marriage to Khloé Kardashian.
Lamar Odom
Lamar Odom is a two-time NBA champion and 13-year veteran. He was a regular cast member on E!’s worldwide sensation Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the highest rated reality show in history. He also starred in the wildly popular spinoff Khloe & Lamar, which documented one of the most covered marriages in recent Hollywood memory.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good book. A look into lives athletes live while not doing their jobs.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Writing seemed choppy. Desperately wished he narrated. Thought it was truly sad from childhood to adult status. Way too many basketball details. I'm a fan like the next one, and understand that's how he identifies himself and clearly is his passion, but some chapters about the background business was repetitive and unnecessary and overall just not as entertaining. It left me unsettled but I genuinely wish him the best. Anyone that comes back to life better be for an intense purpose.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5A lot of technical basketball stats that I’m not familiar with.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The reader of the audiobook had much too saliva in his mouth while reading and you could hear clicking while he was reading. It was quite distracting. The book could have been laid out different or written better.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very well written and interesting story of loss and addiction.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/54.5 StarsI was not really sure how this would go as some memoirs are really good and some fall really flat. I am a huge NBA fan and have followed a little bit around Lamar Odom over the years. My husband also really wanted to read this, so I was excited to have a copy sent my way. When it started I did feel the writing was a little choppy, and the story was all over the place. However; it all came together for me in the end.You will get a lot about his NBA career and the demons he has faced since he was a little kid. I was wondering if he would be open in regards to his drug use, and he was. This was very raw and made me cry several times. He does address his overdoses (there are more than one) which also made me cry my eyes out. I learned so much about other NBA players, coaches, teammates, and owners. My jaw dropped with some of the information. There was interesting information around how Lamar ended up in school (very interesting especially with all the college scandals going on today). There is some information around Khloe, but I do not think this is for you if you only want to read it for the KUWTK information. It is very limited, but really shows the love Lamar had for Khloe.Overall, I really enjoyed this.
