      Very well written, characters and story line kept me intrigued. Can't wait for book 2.

      I give this book 4.5 stars because it's very captivating. It takes a while to pick up, but when it does you won't be able to put it down. My only complaint is that there is a lot of information to take in and sometimes you'll miss certain facts. Also, the main character victim blamed another character, and it was kind of hard to listen to. Overall I enjoyed this book and can't wait for book two. I need it now.

      Inspired by African mythology, "Kingdom of Souls" combines a rich and detailed world, complex characters and fast-paced plot.

      I loved the magic and the world in "Kingdom of Souls", it was detailed and lavish and everything you would want in a fantasy novel. There was this dark, thick with magic, tingling atmosphere that was definitely my favourite thing about this book. The plot was fast-paced, there was always something going on, and so much happened in just one book. It all created this intricate story, sometimes convoluted, but very dark, full of curses and blood magic and soul possessions.

      However, I feel like the fact there was so much detail and so much story (seriously, I think I read trilogies with the amount of plot this book had!) lost me a little bit. I found it hard to grasp the plot points, and, as much as I loved that the world was so detailed, I think I lost part of the details. I think that, if the book had been a little slower, it would have been easier to keep the details in my mind, yet keeping the sense of urgency.

      Personally, I don't think it helped that I was listening to the story via audiobook. I think that if I had been reading, I would have felt less lost (and would have reread passages more easily). Of course that's not the book's fault, but it impacted my reading experience.

      Overall, I think "Kingdom of Souls" is one of the most intrincate books I have ever read, both in terms of world building and plot. I liked it and I reccommend it.

      Phenomenal. This audio was excellent. So much emotion and range by the narrator. Every character felt unique and like they were there own person. I never got lost on who was speaking and she did SO much justice to the story. Loved her voice. ❤️

      This was a confusing book. I liked the characters, especially her relationship with her father, but the plot was hard to follow. That might have been because I just had surgery & I'm a little out of it, but I felt like I was missing out on major explanations. There were a lot of characters to keep track of too.

      This is the first book in The Kingdom of Souls trilogy. I got an eGalley from Edelweiss to review (thanks to HarperTeen for the copy!) This is one of those annoying books that I tried and tried to read. I kept sitting down to read it, getting through a couple pages, and then getting distracted because I just could not get into the story. I got about 30% of the way through before giving it up. This story follows Arrah. Arrah is a young woman who desperately wants to have her magic power develop (she comes from a line of powerful witches). However, year after year Arrah remains devoid of magic. As signs of demon activity increase in her homeland, she decides on a desperate course of action...she will trade years of her own life for magic in order to combat this evil.I am having a hard time pinpointing what I didn’t like about this story. I think it was a mix of the slow paced story and Barron’s writing style. The story itself is pretty typical YA, I was looking forward to the witch doctor parts of it and some history around that...unfortunately that was in the story very little.I don’t have a ton to say about this one. Nothing really grabbed me here. Some of the witch doctor stuff was interesting but it was a very small part of the story. I really struggled at trying to get through this one.Overall this just was not for me. It was too typical YA fantasy, moved too slow, I couldn’t get into the flow of the writing, and I had a horrible time trying to stay engaged in this one. A lot of people are loving it but I am not one of them.
