You Don't Own Me

In this installment of the Under Suspicion series, Laurie investigates the murder of a prominent doctor. His parents are convinced the wife is responsible and insist that Laurie produce this crime on her television show. Clark and Burke weave an engaging ‘who done it’ story. This is an entertaining series that is coming to a close with only one more book.

I loved the added twist that was thrown in this one! Book 5 was my favorite in the series!

Good story and stretch of suspense towards the end. Best part of this audiobook was January Lavoy. She is simply great in her pitch and tone. I love the part how she narrates in different voices based on characters without losing the intensity of the sentiment and emotion. of the moment. Simply brilliant..!!

Love the series. Getting bored of Laurie being attacked each book though. Hope they’re working on the next.

I think the books written by Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke get better with each one. I really enjoyed this one, and I did not guess the ending until almost the very end. I love Mary Higgins Clark but I can definitely see Ms Burke’s touch on these books. Great series!

I was a little bored at first, but the story kicked in and it was good. I don't know that I liked the main character in an earlier story, but I'm coming around lol.

You Don't Own Me is a suspenseful novel that takes place in modern day New York. The characters are believable. The story is believable. The book keeps its feeling from beginning to end. All storylines in the book come to a natural not rushed conclusion. It is a very good book and deserves the four star rating that is awarded here.

This latest edition was one of the darkest and most layered cold cases so far. Most of you have heard me say that of all the various tropes in the mystery/thriller categories, cold cases are my favorite. Naturally, this series would appeal to me on that basis alone. Add in the fact that it is co-written by two of the best female mystery/suspense writers out there, and you have an unbeatable combination. It seems every character in this story has an explosive secret, one that could cast suspicions on them. Even the murder victim has secrets, secrets that could give someone a nice motive for murder. This installment has some really nice and well-timed twists, which kept me on my toes and guessing all the way to the bitter end. There was a lot going on in this story, with Alex, the stalker, and the murder case, but these clever and seasoned authors brought all the threads together for a rousing and suspenseful conclusion. I can’t wait to see what these ladies will bring us next in this series! 4 stars
