About this audiobook
In the beautiful Maine woods, a partly preserved body is discovered. Investigators realize that the young woman gave birth shortly before her death. But there is no sign of a baby.
Private detective Charlie Parker is hired by a lawyer to shadow the police investigation and find the infant but Parker is not the only one searching. Someone else is following the trail left by the woman, someone with an interest in much more than a missing child…someone prepared to leave bodies in his wake.
And in a house by the woods, a toy telephone begins to ring and a young boy is about to receive a call from a dead woman.
With breathless pacing and shivery twists and turns, “this is Connolly’s masterpiece” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Well this is a hard book to review. The narrator was very good and easy to understand, it took me a bit to get used to his voice but once I did I enjoyed his skills. The book itself is difficult. This is my first time with a book by this author. He is a talented and gifted write; however, there are way too many characters to keep track of. I understand this was book #16 and I don't think my issues with it had to do with not reading the books in order. There was one character who was killed and I cannot even remember who he was or how he was tied to the story. It is clear this author has a lot to say and great stories to tell, the details of every chapter are beautifully written. I just don't think his books are for me. Overall I enjoyed the story but I really wanted to see some retribution for the character of Dobie, nothing was ever really done to the bad guys, maybe that's in the next book but I don't think I will follow up with more of this series.
