About this audiobook
Discover practical strategies to make reading aloud a meaningful family ritual.
The stories we read--and the conversations we have about them--help shape family traditions, create lifelong memories, and become part of our legacy. Reading aloud not only has the power to change a family--it has the power to change the world.
But we all know that connecting deeply with our families can be difficult in our busy, technology-driven society. Reading aloud is one of the best ways to be fully present with our children, even after they can read themselves, but it isn't always easy to do. Discover how to:
- Prepare your kids for academic success through reading to them
- Develop empathy and compassion in your kids through books
- Find time to read aloud in the midst of school, sports, and dinner dishes
- Choose books across a variety of sibling interests and ages
- Make reading aloud the best part of your family's day
The Read-Aloud Family also offers age-appropriate book lists from infancy through adolescence. From a toddler's wonder to a teenager's resistance, you will find the inspiration you need to start a read-aloud movement in your own home.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is great. All about reading books to your children. The benefits both to the children and the parents, not to mention the relationships it helps build.
I like all the advice, little stories and suggested reading.
Would be a great book for homeschooling parents. There is some religious content but could definitely be helpful for anyone hoping to read more with their children.1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Such an inspiring book. It makes me want to read more and more to all of my children. It was encouraging, especially on the days the toddler would be running a muck around the house, the 5 year old making superhero sounds, and the other one complaining about anything she could. It gave me a new perspective and dealer appreciation of reading aloud.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was inspiring! It makes me want to incorporate reading aloud to my children for the years to come. There were parts of this book that got me teary eyed in a good way. Can’t wait to start reading more with my kids.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a wonderful book to get parents thinking about the importance of reading aloud, give information that you may not even think about as support as to why we should do it, and it will give you a great way to make those lasting memories we all want with our children. Only 4stars because if you have religious trauma, aren't Christian, etc. It is very heavy on Christian content. (That's the author's right obviously, but I do feel like before diving in those who are not should be given a heads up.)
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I regularly listen to Sarah's podcast, "The Read-Aloud Revival". As an avid reader, I love introducing my kids to books in the hopes that they will love reading as well. This offering is a wonderful resource to encourage parents in building a bookish culture in their own homes. The final part of the book includes her carefully curated collection of read-alouds for various age ranges. If you need some inspiration or fresh vision to keep reading to your kids, this book (and podcast) can help!
