About this audiobook

Here comes a captivating western romance and family-centered drama with a heart of gold, featuring plenty of cowboys and family drama, from prolific author and networker Ruth Logan Herne. Colt Stafford's winner-take-all personality clashed with his father's similar temperament and led Colt to pursue his own success far from the Double S ranch. The opportunity came in private equities once he earned his way to a desk on Wall Street. But timing is everything and Colt's financial demise coincided with his father's illness. God's perfect timing doesn't always seem all that perfect, but Colt needed a job, the Double S needed Colt and Sam sent his prodigal son a ticket.and Colt came home. He rediscovers his love for ranching, for Washington and for the great outdoors. His father's change of heart seems surreal, and by the time Colt realizes he belongs with his family, he's lost his heart to a Latina cop whose gone undercover to protect her child and her mother. Through the accidents of timing, God has brought multiple facets together at the Double S, just in time for healing, hope and home.

Back in the Saddle by Ruth Logan Herne is an uplifting story about reconciliation, forgiveness and faith. This first installment in the delightful Double S Ranch series also has an understated yet endearing romance that is guaranteed to melt readers' hearts.

Colt Stafford never imagined he would return to his family's ranch but after losing his lucrative job on Wall Street, he has few options open to him. Estranged from his father Sam and with his relationship with brother Nick strained by his long absence, he is uncertain what reception awaits him. His unexpected arrival a day early takes housekeeper Angelina Morales by surprise and their introduction is unorthodox yet understandable given the circumstances. Colt is rather smitten by Angelina, but he also quickly realizes there is much more to her than meets the eye and he is very curious about the secrets she is keeping. While Colt easily steps back into the day to day operations on the Double S, will he be able to repair his fractured relationships with his family?

The death of Colt's mom when he was four years old set the stage for the complicated family dynamics. His heartbroken father quickly remarried and when the marriage ended in divorce, Sam became even more distant from Colt, Nick and eventually, their adopted brother Trey. When Colt and Trey wanted more for their lives than ranching, Sam issued ultimatums to both of them that resulted in longstanding estrangements between him and his sons. Now in ill health, Sam is ready to make amends, but is it too late to mend their broken relationships?

Colt never quite recovered from the loss of his kind-hearted and gentle mother. He could not wait to get away from the ranch and his small hometown but with his career in tatters and his assets frozen, he has little choice but to return to the Double S. Planning only a temporary stay on the ranch, he maintains an emotional distance from his father and rebuffs his attempts to make up for past mistakes. His relationship with his brother is equally uneasy but this does not stop Colt from trying to help Nick move past his heartache over his broken marriage. At the same time, Colt's feelings for Angelina begin to deepen but with both of them looking to the past, will they sacrifice their chance at happiness?

An incredibly poignant and realistic depiction of working through the pain of past mistakes, Back in the Saddle by Ruth Logan Herne is a healing journey of redemption and renewed faith. The novel is well-written with a storyline that is a meaningful and thought-provoking. The romance between Colt and Angelina is slow growing and very sweet. The cast of characters is beautifully developed with true life flaws and imperfections that make them sympathetic and easy to like. This first installment in the Double S Ranch series is a heartfelt and engrossing story with a gentle undercurrent of spirituality that is sure to resonate with readers of Christian fiction.

Colt is a well known person on Wall Street. He has all the nice suits and the look of a winner. But as the stock market starts to take a dive, he makes a decision to go back to his hometown. He grew up on a huge ranch called the Double S. It won't be easy going home for him since he has some relationships that need mending. So begins the story of a modern day prodigal son. Will he be welcomed by everyone?

Angelina finds herself working as a housekeeper at the ranch. She is very hard working and family oriented. When she meets Colt it is almost like an explosion going off. He didn't expect her to be in the house and she wasn't expecting him at all. As they begin to get more accustomed to each other they begin to have feelings for each other. Angelina knows that she is hiding something about her past and it is just a matter of time before her secret is found out. Will Colt support her or will he feel betrayed?

The Stafford men are a force to be reckoned with. Rough around the edges, decent, hardworking, stubborn to the core. But each grapples with deep wounds from their past. Patriarch Sam Stafford is finally ready to face the part he played in his broken family and willing to make amends...if it's not too late. What a wonderful set up for the Double S Ranch series.

“Back in the Saddle” is the first book in author Ruth Logan Herne’s “Double S Ranch Series”. I so enjoyed this story—the writing is perfectly paced, the story line is involving, and the characters all have great appeal. Colt Stafford left his ranching family home in Gray’s Glen, Washington to make his mark in the financial world of Wall Street. Big city life and big business suited him just fine until it crashed, leaving his future uncertain. With his reputation and his own personal finances in question, he finds himself heading home to touch base with his family and to immerse himself, at least for a while, in the day to day operations of the ranch. He doesn’t expect to be met at the door by a beautiful young woman wielding his father Sam’s own gun. Angelina Morales is the housekeeper and general overseer of the Stafford household. Colt’s brother Nick is the one who stayed behind to help run the ranch, and his other brother, Trey, had left home and started a successful music career. The relationship between father and sons is complicated, as Sam was a difficult and demanding man. Health problems and his own personal losses have given him a new perspective on life, and he wants to make amends with his family and the community. Angelina has her own secrets, but she and Colt have an immediate attraction. Neither of them intended to stay permanently at the Double S, but heartstrings are drawing them closer together—is love in their future? Each character’s faith is in various stages, and their personal growth is an ongoing process. The author generously included a wonderful recipe for “Angelina’s Cherry Cake”. I very much look forward to future entries in this series so that I can find out more about the Stafford men and the special woman who will claim each man’s heart.Book Copy Gratis via Blogging for Books

Colt returns to his roots, licking his wounds. Leaving what had been a lucrative career on Wall Street but now finding himself financially hurting, he arrives at his childhood ranch home where his ailing father still lives. But other things are certainly different. For one thing, he didn't expect to have a beautiful woman point a gun at him when he stepped inside the house! But as the weeks go by Colt finds himself feeling more at home than he ever had before. The author does a fine job at combining adventure with romance, all with Christian overtones. Interesting characters placed in an equally interesting story make this tale worth reading.

Back in the Saddle by Ruth Logan Herne 304 pagesYears ago, Colt, the oldest of the Strafford brothers, left the Double S Ranch for Wall Street. He exchanged his boots for wingtips and became successful. But one bad investment, and his world came crashing down around his ears. Readers aren’t privy to Colt’s demise, but Herne provides enough information that readers can’t help but know if they’ve read a newspaper or heard a news report. He has come to the Double S. Not only due to his setback, but the family patriarch, Sam, is ailing. The Double S’s housekeeper is the beautiful Angelina Morales. She not only cooks and cleans, but helps with Sam. She has secrets of her own that she’s trying to hide. She is well-respected by the Strafford clan and those who live in Gray’s Glen, Washington. It’s a tiny town, made up of ranchers and small business people. There is no love lost between the town and Sam Strafford, who had always been more interested in creating an empire than paying attention to his boys or other people. Spark start to fly the moment Colt and Angelina meet…and they both feel them. I loved that Back in the Saddle is not your typical romance where boy meets girl, they hate each, boy and girl fall in love. There isn’t much conflict in the first half of the novel. It’s not all bad considering that this is the first book in a series. Herne does an excellent job in allowing readers to get to know who the characters are, so I’m sure that they’ll be popping up in other novels. Still, that slow, slow beginning is why Back in the Saddle receives 4 stars out of 5 in Julie’s world. This is Book One in the Double S Ranch Series.

Title: Back in the SaddleAuthor: Ruth Logan HernePublisher: MultnomahSeries: Double S Ranch # 1Reviewed By: Arlena DeanRating: FiveReview:"Back in the Saddle: A Novel" by Ruth Logan HerneMy Thoughts....What a story this one was of the 'Double S Ranch # 1. This author does what she tends to do with all of her Christian reads and that is give the readers something to ponder over long after the read as she does for 'Back in the Saddle' and even giving her readers Bible verses and references to God. I loved the way the author presents themes toward the story ...'redemption, forgiveness and even the prodigal son example of the lost sheep parable.' The story was indeed a emotional story one that run very deep without there being easy answers. As one sees two people the heroine & hero] who are falling in love again but should they? This was a very interesting process as they are able to get over so many obstacles that they faced. Definitely when it is all said and done there will be no easy answers. The characters [Colt, Angelina, Sam, Nick, Trey, Cheyenne, & Dakota] to name a few and all I can say is that they are really something else being well developed, defined, portrayed and even believable all giving the reader a well written read that will keep your attention throughout the novel. We find this Stafford family was really like any other families and living 'imperfect lives.' Sam Stafford, who was a father, rancher, is ill and very stubborn but wanting to make amends with his sons. Why was this? But the beautiful thing was that God could come in in any situation and a present 'reconciliation, redemption and oh my even second chances.' However, will Colt want to accept these changes that his father has offered? There will definitely be be some spiritual lessons that will be learned from this wonderful unpredictable story. And will these "Stafford men be able to examine their hearts and truly learn what it means to be a neighbor to be able to save their relationship with the citizens of Gray's Gen?" What was going on with that situation? Now, I know there are many questions that has been asked and all will be answered by the reader picking up this read and seeing for yourself how well it is all brought out so well by this excellent storyteller. By the end of the read all I can say is that "Back in the Saddle" is a story of 'family, faith, love and second chances' that was truly one wholesome good read. Next in this series is: "Home On The Range."

I'm a big cowboy romance fan, so I was excited to grab this one to review. Ruth Logan Herne was a new to me author and the synopsis of the story sounded intriguing. So, I settled in for the day/night and read through nearly to the end (then I got tired so HAD to go to sleep so my CNA job wouldn't fall to pieces the next day!), but quickly picked it back up and finished it the next morning. It was that good. I loved every part of this story wholly and it will be with me forever! This is a book that I will be sharing with all who want a wonderful, inspiring read! Colt, Angelina, Nick and Sam, along with the other characters in the story, really gripped my heart. I loved watching Colt and his changes in life after leaving his city life to come home to his country family ranch. Angelina, bless her, I loved her character! Seeing her interact with Colt was a refreshing part of the story! These two were perfectly chiseled to be just the right amount of flawed. I can't give this book less than 5 stars! It's worthy of so much more. It had me twisted up inside and had me falling in love at every turn. From start to finish, this book is epically created and has the perfect amount of inspirational faith and hope woven among the pages. I can't wait to read more about these beautiful characters in book 2! Well done, Ms. Herne! You've gained a new fan in me! *I received a complimentary copy of this book from Blogging For Books and was under no obligation to post a review, positive or negative*

Title: Back in the Saddle (A Double S Novel #1)Author: Ruth Logan HernePages: 320Year: 2016Publisher: MultnomahMy rating is 5 stars.First, let me say that the next book in this series will be released October 2016 titled, Home on the Range. Now, to the story set in book one, Back in the Saddle. Readers are introduced to a ranch named the Double S and the Stafford family. Sam is the patriarch who is widowed and battling a liver problem and some injuries given to him by a cow. Angelina is the housekeeper/cook and a whole lot more on the ranch where she cares for the father along with the ranch hands. The son Nick has been the main mind and work horse on the ranch even when his wife up and walked out. Now returns the prodigal son Colt who left years ago to work in the financial arena on Wall Street. Colt never planned on returning, but when the market changed, he lost his job so to the ranch he returned. The third son Trey is a Christian singer who travels much, but with his father’s health issue he plans on taking a break come spring.Sam has undergone a heart transformation due to the Lord and hopes to have time to mend his relationship with each of his sons. Angelina is falling in love with Colt, but can she give up her plans to return to the Seattle police force? As time and family life develop in the story readers will enjoy the intriguing way the hearts of the sons do and perhaps don’t change.I think Ruth Logan Herne has crafted a believable story of a family and each individual son, which is believable and enjoyable. The Lord has changed the atmosphere in the home and in Sam. Will those heart transformations reach Colt and Nick? I really thought it brilliant that the widowed mother of Angelina wanted to be busy and enjoyed doing work on the ranch such as cooking and laundry. Perhaps we forget that as we grow older we don’t want to be put away but be of use and be with people we love and care about.I am wondering if the author plans her other books to focus on the other two sons Nick and Trey as well as the family and ranch as a whole. Well, in October of this year we will all see won’t we? I am excited and highly anticipate enjoying book two, Home on the Range.
