Don't Let Go is a fast-paced story with big secrets and lies that reach back 15 years. Detective Napoleon "Nap" Dumas' life changed when his twin brother and his girlfriend were found dead and mutilated on the train tracks when they were just 18. In his grief, he bonds with Augie, Diana's father and Ellie, her best friend. Not only did he lose his brother, but his girlfriend Maura also disappeared on the same night. When he received a knock on his door saying that Maura's fingerprints were found at the scene of the killing of a cop, he is pulled into a situation that is hard to believe.
Harlan Coben does a great job revealing clues that give enough information to confuse you just a bit more. With government conspiracy thrown in for good measure and deceit along the way, he pulled me into the story so that I did not want to put it down. Harlan Coben takes a hometown legend (read the author's note at the beginning) and uses it to write this creative thriller. Don't Let Go started off with a bang and the ride carried right through to the end. With likable, yet flawed characters, the relationships remind me of the Myron Bolitar series. They depend on one another, forgive each other and often turn a blind eye to what is happening. A great book that any thriller suspense lover will enjoy. Rating: 4This book had one of the best opening lines I have read, "Daisy wore a clingy black dress with a neckline so deep it could tutor philosophy." This may be the last book that I read in 2017 but I enjoyed it. I think this is the first Harlan Coben book that I have read. I will check out more of his novels.
The story was good but what made it more interesting for me was the character Nat Dumas, a detective in suburban New Jersey. He is a real badass who is not afraid to break the rules and ensure justice outside of the law. Decent ending to the book as it tied all the loose ends of the mystery.

So many of my Harlan Coben books are 5-star rated. This is another one!Don't Let Go is a standalone thriller (however Myron Bolitar makes a far too brief appearance at a pick-up basketball game). Fifteen years ago, Nap Dumas' twin, Leo, was killed when hit by a train. At least that's the theory. Today Nap is a police officer and he has never accepted the official explanation of events. Also killed that night was Leo's girlfriend, Diana. Her father is Nap's boss, friend, and mentor. Nap's girlfriend, Maura, disappeared the same night. Nap has looked for Maura for years but she's never re-appeared. Until the beginning of the book, of course! There are many characters whose stories are told in the past and present. Each character was clearly different so they were easy to keep track of. The story's satisfying outcome was surprising and there were misdirections and twists along the way.

The abrupt end leaves a few significant questions as to the lead character's future, though the mysteries are dispelled. Good characters and relentless pace.

The answers he finds do not please him.

In between those two events, his twin brother was killed when they were seniors in high school and the love of his young life disappeared. In the years since, Nap became a cop and is an investigator for the county where he grew up.The past is about to catch up with him when two cops from out of state show up at his door. A cop in their own town was killed. He was a guy Nap went to high school with, but that's not why they came. It's because a set of prints he put into the system years ago got a hit when they were processing the case. The prints belong to the girl who captured his heart and vanished when they all were in school.From there, the action never stops in Harlan Coben's latest suspense novel. Old friends, old rumors and new perspectives on what Nap thought he knew come together masterfully. Who Nap is, who he was and who he could become are an important part of the story. This becomes as integral to the story as solving the mystery. As a bonus, an old favorite makes an appearance.Coben says that two rumors he grew up with turned out to both be true. They certainly work together well in Don't Let Go. They also show that secrets aren't really secrets in a small town. And if someone doesn't hide the truth from himself, he can find a way to reconcile past and future.
Rating: 4I liked this one. I thought all the characters were well defined and I adored Nap. Nothing beats Harlan Coben. I like his style. He's complete, he's relate-able and funny (even when the story isn't).Through the whole book Nap speaks to his dead, twin brother Leo. He's still mourning him 15yrs later after what appears to be a double suicide on the train tracks with his girlfriend, Diana. The same night that Leo and Diana are found, Nap's girlfriend, Maura, disappears. After certain details arise, Nap starts asking questions and after learning so much, he can't turn back. He needs to find out what happened 15 yrs ago.
Rating: 4Coben does not disappoint! I could not put this book down and then he throws in an extra special bonus: Myron Bolitar makes a cameo! This plot just twisted and turned, it kept me going. I highly recommend anything and everything this author has written. [My only moment of "huh" was when he mentioned that 15 years ago these High School kids were drinking Fireball] - fairly certain that Fireball was not really a thing that long okay in the US. But I can get over it.]
Rating: 4I've come late to the Harlan Coben party, so I have quite a few books to choose from. After reading only one book-- and now this one-- I've grown to enjoy Coben's writing style and his sense of humor. In Don't Let Go, he's crafted an engrossing storyline about how recent murders tie into the death of his beloved brother Leo, a brother he still talks to each and every day. In fact, this story is told to Leo, and if you think that makes Nap rather strange, so be it.Between the story and the character of Nap, there was no way I was going to stop reading this book. Nap is fascinating, a man who's always felt as though he needs to play a part: "I'm friendly like that. Mr. Nice Neighbor. See, I am the rarest of creatures in suburban towns-- a straight, single, childless male is about as common out here as a cigarette in a health club-- and so I work hard to come across as normal, boring, reliable." Nap is anything but boring, but in his utter determination to find out what really happened to his brother, he is the epitome of reliability. When all the pieces of the story begin coming together, the momentum picks up like a runaway freight train. I was all set to sing the praises of Don't Let Go to everyone who'd listen... until the villain was revealed. The villain is the type of character I've been seeing frequently in my reading as well as in movies and on television, so when I learned whodunnit, I groaned out loud in disappointment. So... my opinion dropped from Excellent to Very Good. But it goes without saying (although I'll say it anyway)-- your mileage may certainly vary.

And as always, I couldn't put it down - and finished it far too quickly.Don't Let Go is a stand alone novel and introduces us to New Jersey Detective Nap Dumas. (I would love to see more of Nap in future books) Nap's twin brother Leo and his girlfriend were tragically killed when they all were in high school. It was deemed an accident, but Nap has always wondered. Leo and his friends were fascinated by the highly guarded government facility just outside of town. Could there be a connection? Just around the same time Nap's high school sweetheart Maura disappeared. For years Nap has been trying to come to terms with the deaths and the disappearance.And then the past comes crashing into the present when Maura's fingerprints are found at a murder scene smack dab in Nap's jurisdiction. Where has she been? Where is she now?I liked Nap as a character - he's sworn to uphold the law, but doesn't mind giving things a little nudge to get where they should be. He's got a dangerous edge that is hidden. In addition to a great lead character, the supporting players are just as well drawn and interesting. Even those that don't actually have a voice. Without giving anything away, I had formed an opinion of one character and found myself quite surprised when my assumptions were proven wrong.Myron Bolitar's cameo was a treat to come across. Those who know and love Myron will mention the sense of humour of that series. Dark as it seems, Coben has infused humour into Don't Let Go as well. You'll also find a lot of well expressed and explored emotions - loss, love, grief, anger and more along the way.The plot of Don't Let Go is quite inventive and takes inspiration from actual (and disturbing) events in Coben's own past. Don't Let Go was another satisfying read from Coben. Can't wait for the next book!

Shady government agencies are involved, and Nap is a multi-dimensional character. It makes for a fun and engrossing read.
Rating: 4"Don't Let Go" is another great mystery thriller by Harlan Coben.Nap Dumas is a police officer still reeling from the deaths of his teenaged twin brother Leo and Leo's girlfriend 15 years ago. He also has never gotten over then-girlfriend Maura's disappearance the same night of his brother's death.When the murder of a police officer in present day turns up Maura's fingerprints at the crime scene, Nap finds his past rushing back into the present. The sudden reappearance of Maura after 15 years of silence reawakens all the questions Nap had about what happened 15 years ago. Was the cop killing somehow related to what happened 15 years ago?This was a great suspense thriller with Coben's reliably solid character development and fast-paced plot. Although I had figured out answer to the mystery before Coben revealed it, the book was still a very satisfying read. If I could give 1/2 stars, I would give this book a 4 1/2 rating. Had Coben been clever enough to prevent me from guessing the resolution, I would have given the book 5 stars. ;)
Rating: 4This was oh so good! I have been a long time fan of Harlan Coben's work so I went into this book with some pretty high expectations. This book met all of those expectations. It was literally a book that I did not want to put down and I ended up reading it cover to cover in less than a day. The story grabbed me from the very beginning and didn't let go until the last page. This book was filled with all of the twists and turns that I have come to expect from Harlan Coben. The story is told from Nap's point of view. Nap is a New Jersey Detective with his own sense of right and wrong. His twin brother, Leo, and Leo's girlfriend, Diana, died together back in high school. Most people think that it was a double suicide but nobody really seems to know what happened. Nap's high school girlfriend, Maura, disappeared at the same time as his twin brother's death. Nap has always been somewhat desperate to learn what really happened.When Maura's fingerprints are discovered at the murder scene of another high school classmate, Nap starts trying to piece everything together. He learns that not everything is as he thought it was and secrets have been kept from him by those he thought he could trust. As he learns more about that night, he realizes how much he really doesn't know. Can he piece together everything from all of those years ago before it it too late?I thought that the writing was great. I loved the fact that I never could guess where this book was going. There were so many twists and turns in this novel that the excitement level of the story never wavered. I was truly surprised by so many of the revelations and found myself reading the book at a furious pace to find out what would happen next. The pacing of the book was perfectly done with action scenes spaced out around more thoughtful ones. I felt Nap's desperation to learn the truth behind what happened to his twin and wanted everything to come out okay in the end. I was delighted to see one of my favorite characters, Myron Bolitar, make a quick appearance in the story. I would highly recommend this book to fans of mysteries with lots of twists and turns. This book was very fast paced and incredibly hard to put down. Rating: 5Full disclosure: I'm a Harlan Coben groupie. I love his writing style and the originality of his stories. While I've never disliked one of his books, as with all authors, I've enjoyed some more than others. This one is up there with the books I love most.Nap Dumas is a fascinating, complex character. He's haunted by his past, but not so broken and consumed that you wonder how he manages to function. He feels real and believable. Coben excels with characterization. Even the minor characters come alive. This story has quite a few 'wow' moments. We have murder and intrigue, and just enough conspiracy theory sprinkled in to make us wonder. Each bit of information brings us a whole new set of questions, and with those answers come more surprises. I don't want to tell you more because I don't want to give anything away.For me, this book succeeds on all levels: memorable characters, powerful storyline, satisfying mystery, and surprising twists, all woven together in a way that is totally plausible. *I received an advance ebook copy from the publisher, via NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review.*
Rating: 5The character of Nap (Napoleon) presented somewhat difficult choices for the reader. Is he a good guy or is he a bad guy...him being a cop you kinda hoped for the later...but the first meeting we had with him he was crippling a guy with a baseball bat...so???? I found him way too driven by events that happened in his teen years...the death of his twin brother, Leo and the disappearance of his then girlfriend, Maura... in the beginning. As he began to investigate what really happened fifteen years ago we began to see that his paranoid attitude just might have some reality. The bodies begin to pile up and the story starts to take several very different paths. I read that the story was loosely based on some actual events that took place in the "real" hometown of the author who cleverly weaved the facts into the story line. Harlan Coben fans will love it...those new to this author will quickly become fans.

What you will get is a good read, compelling characters, your heart strings tugged on, and a little bit of a thrill. His latest, "Don't Let Go" is no exception.It's a story about a high school lover that runs away and disappears after a horrific accident involving our protagonist's brother. An event that sends all involved lives into a spiral. People are not what they seem and events did not transpire as remembered. As always, in the end all is revealed.A special treat is a cameo appearance by Coben creation Myron Bolivar. This is a satisfying read that will please fans. If you are not a fan, than I have to ask, why? Cohen is a solid one.
Rating: 4harlan coben never disappoints me... from the first page to the last, this book was fantastic! and the ending took me completely by surprise. the narrator was very good too.. he really translated the different characters and emotions through to the reader very well. if you haven't listened to/read this title yet, you're definitely missing out!

I almost turned the book off after an hour and a half because I thought the main character was a sociopath and I didn’t feel like listening to a sociopath describe his life to his dead brother. I was wrong...

Maura, Nap’s girlfriend, disappeared that same night and has never been heard from since. Nap, now a police detective, is still haunted by Leo’s death and Maura’s disappearance.Now Maura’s fingerprints have been found at the scene of a murdered police officer. Rex Canton, the officer was a classmate of Nap and Maura. Nap’s investigation reveals that Leo, Maura, Rex, and three other classmates were members of a mysterious club, and those individuals are all suffering untimely deaths. “Don’t Let Go” captures readers interest from the first sentence and keeps them reading to find out who is killing the students and why. The pace lags at times as Coben sometimes provides too much background or explanation. I particularly found Nap’s mental dialogue with Leo to be somewhat annoying. For the most part the dialogue did little to advance the plot. However, the most troublesome aspect of the story was the lack of a convincing rationale for the events that unfolded fifteen years ago and the repercussions occurring at the present time. A number of central characters have information they have concealed and the explanations they offer for their actions are unconvincing. It turns out I was flat out wrong. It all makes better sense in the end than I expected it would.I even speculated at one (in my opinion) implausible explanation for some of the events. Coben offers a genuinely surprising twist at the end and I was amused to learn that I was both right and wrong. I’ll not say more than that as I think readers will enjoy the mystery and surprise ending.
