About this audiobook

From New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown comes a sweet romance about finding a place to truly call home.

Being broke, unemployed, and stranded back in the tiny town of Pick, Texas, was not part of Jancy Wilson's plan. Yet here she is, watching her car literally go up in smoke—along with her last-ditch hope of staying with her cousin in Louisiana. When Jancy spies a Help Wanted sign hanging in the window of the quaint Strawberry Hearts Diner, the memories of the two years she spent there as a teenager—and the lure of the diner's beloved strawberry tarts—are enough to draw her in and plant her feet—but only temporarily.

Raised by parents who refused to settle anywhere for long, Jancy has never known what it is to have roots. Now that Jancy's swept up by the warmth and character of this quirky little community—and by the pull of an old crush—it's beginning to feel like home. She's making friends and even discovering the sweetness of falling in love. But when the town is threatened, Jancy knows it will take more than its legendary tarts to save it. Can she fight for this little Texas town—knowing she might not stay forever?

This was a fun, uplifting story about folks from a small town who share common values and struggle with the same ups and downs that face many of us. Yeah, the ending is kind of predictable but that’s not such a bad thing. It’s fun to look forward to a happy ending for the characters you grow to love.

Jancy wasn't planning on staying in Pick. She was just passing through the town where she spent some happy years. However, her car is broken and can't be fixed. When Jancy sees that the Strawberry Hearts Diner is looking for help she decides to check it out and offers her services. She has fond memories of the diner and the ladies who run it, Vicky and Nettie. They immediately treat her like family, but Jancy isn't there to stay, or is she?

Jancy is used to moving around a lot. She doesn't have any roots and has no idea if she's capable of growing them. While she makes friends in Pick and is happier than she's ever been she's also having doubts, is she like her father, who always wanted to leave as soon as he arrived somewhere? When someone is threatening to ruin everything that makes Pick special Jancy has to decide if she wants to stay and fight for the people she's grown to love or if she should go like she's always planned to.

The Strawberry Hearts Diner is a fantastic romantic story. Jancy is insecure and doesn't know how wonderful she is. She's sweet, smart and generous. I immediately loved her and couldn't wait to find out if she'd find some much deserved happiness in Pick. She's had a hard life and being with Vicky and Nettie is exactly what she needs to heal. I loved that The Strawberry Hearts Diner is a combination of heartwarming friendship, love and family and that this is being offered to every decent person who enters the premises.

Carolyn Brown's writing has a lovely easy flow that immediately made me like her story. The Strawberry Hearts Diner is a magical setting. It's warm and welcoming, a place that feels like home. Carolyn Brown's descriptions of food are mouthwatering and she makes this precious diner that means so much to many people come to life in an incredible way. The Strawberry Hearts Diner is such a gorgeous book, it's charming, entertaining, adorable and captivating. It's a mesmerizing feelgood story that put a big smile on my face.

When Jancy Wilson's car burns up in Pick, Texas, she gets a job and a home in the small community. Her grandmother lived here all her life, and the people quickly adopt Jancy and make friends with her. This is not a romance per se, but a book more in the style of Robyn Carr's Virgin River series that covers a lot of people. It's a sweet story where everyone gets along and takes care of each other. There's one caricature of a villain, a con-artist developer who wants to buy up the town for a suburb community, but no one is interested and he pretty much fades away. Otherwise, it's just church and festivals and picnics, and so on.The one little caveat I had was despite all the church-going, it seemed like every woman in the book was single and pregnant, some in a line of generational motherhood. I don't object to premarital sex but did no one in Pick know about birth control?

A sweet tale of young love, small town, and second chances.

I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I became invested in the characters in this sweet romance. Jancy Wilson wasn't planning on staying in Pick, Texas after visiting her grandmother's grave. But after her car actually bursts into flames, a help wanted sign in a nearby diner seems heaven sent. The diner is run by longtime friends Nettie and Vicky, who along with Vicky's daughter Emily round out the strong female characters in this story. I liked how the sweet romance developed between Jancy and Shane, and how the wonderful characters in this small town banded together against outside developers. Just a wonderful read.

Jancy Wilson is broke, unemployed and now she's without a car. Her plans of going to stay with her cousin in Louisiana go up in smoke when her car catches fire in the tiny town of Pick, Texas. She notices a Help Wanted sign in the window of the quaint Strawberry Hearts Diner. She used to live in Pick when she was a teenager and her memories, along with the diner's famous strawberry tarts, draw her in to the diner and into a job. She only wants to save enough money to get a decent car and continue on her way. Her parents moved from place to place, so Jancy doesn't know what it's like to settle in one place. But as the close-knit community, and an old crush, welcome her with open arms, she's beginning to feel as though this little place in Texas could be home.

The cover caught my eye, it's gorgeous. And though this isn't the typical type of book I go for, it sounded cute and mushy and I thought I'd give it a try. The writing is good. The setting, the characters and the food are all brought to life. Of course it's predictable but that doesn't take away from anything. I do like how Pick is a place where everyone knows everyone and they're supportive of one another and kind, but (and I hate to say this) it also got on my nerves at times.

Thank you to Netgalley and Montlake Romance for a copy of this book.
