      Cassandra Clare is a consummate writer, and she weaves themes of openmindedness and the stupidity of racism and prejudice into her action packed, yet somehow also character driven novel. I have already pre ordered book three!

      Really enjoyed this, particularly because of James Marsters' performance.
      Mr. Marsters, please make a recording of Poe poetry readings. Dreamland was so beautifully done that I savored every syllable and replayed it many times.

      Though one keeps expecting the same kind of heartfelt romance of The infernal devices, the story fails to reach the benchmark set by The mortal instruments.It flows along the predictable story line and lacks the pull as the other Cassandra Claire books had.Emma character gives you a sense of incompleteness.overall the book keeps you in for light reading but fails to capture you within its world, until the end of the book.

      Listened to this one as an audiobook and I really liked the narrator (it just might have been James Marsters). The story, of course, was great too - I enjoy this fantasy world and I'm looking forward to the next book.

      This book was such a roller coaster. I laughed, I almost cried, and I'm still not sure how to put the ending into words. I'm almost not wanting to read the next one because it's going to hurt more.

      I was a huge fan of the previous series and even Lady Midnight. I am not sure what happened with Lord of Shadows, but I just could not get into the story. I never take several weeks to read a book, but this took me over a month. I never found myself wanting to pick it up. I feel nothing really happened, and it just dragged on. The story jumped around too much to really get captured into what was happening next. This just fell very flat for me. I pushed through as I have come too far to give up now. I am hoping the third book is better!

      Lets do this backwards- the endIt's all fun and games till somebody goes nutters and swings a sword ! What happened ? I think my mind passed out there for a few moments. Somebody hold me upright because I am in shock. Where did that turn come from. Holy smokes. What, where, how did that happen ? Deep breathing required during those last 20 minutes, and some smelling salts. The book was a slow start for me but quickly picked up. Oh there is drama- Emma and Jewels have some feelings that are a big no no in their society. One of the institute's most trusted friend betrays them. Fairy lets one go, with a barbed leash attached. A painful secret is shared with an unlikely source. Thugs from long ago are unleashed. The dead return to life ? Are you getting the idea it's a whirlwind, but the ending is a tsunami.Excellent narration, excellent story. I'm off to download book #3

      ***Spoilers alert***Finally I read this bulky 700 pages book, really took me a long time to spare hours non-stop for reading as I wanted to read in one or two goes rather than every few attempts! I am not fond of cover at all. I also found myself very critical about the book, because, alright, I have read all the books in the series, the author is famous and that doesn't mean I am going to close my eyes to some illogical points, where I would be critical to any other author. I think the synopsis was wrong and sounds more depressive than it actually is. That is one of the reasons why I postponed the read, as I had no wish to read about heartbreaking love feelings between Emma and Julian and it wasn't that bad! One thing for sure this was an easy jump to familiarize each of the characters, bringing all of them together in one book, finally, focusing on "new characters" and literary pushing Clary & co at the back of the story, bringing to the plot once or twice. It is a very comfortable and interesting read, learning stories in depth of characters - Diana (this was my favorite part of the book, waiting to read what's underneath and crossing fingers for it not to turn something awful), Emma, Mark, Diego... and others..., suspense, intrigue and wanting to know what's going to happen, but... My issues with the book were cliff ending chapters, back and forth the story line with Zara and her team to be suddenly dropped at all, only to read about her again at the very finale. The very final plot climax, sorry, but did not made any sense...for what the book was build up, felt kind of cheated on.. I also felt there was unnecessary side stories to the main plot, either to extend the length of the book, sorry, I don't know, as a reader I learn about this Dark War warning coming over at 1/3 of the book, and i expect it to start sometimes in the middle, but it doesn't, there's quite a lot of drama and repetitive elements from the previous books - so am I supposed to be ready for the huge unknown drastic ending to the whole Shadowhunters?

      Lord of Shadows was pretty par for course. If you enjoyed the other Shadowhunter novels then you will most likely enjoy this book too. Ms. Clare has a special way of creating characters and setting that allows a readers to sink into them and enjoy. There are some books where I very much like the plot but the the slower areas of the book feel like a burden to get through. With the Shadowhunter books I never really get bored, even with the slower parts because I genuinely like the characters and the way they interact with one another which allows even the most mundane events to still be pleasant to read. That pun wasn't originally intended but we'll leave it there for good measure. Sometimes when I find a series that already has several volumes I'll try to read straight through but then find myself needing to take a break, often even when I really like the series. With Ms. Clare's Shadowhunter book I never I always experience the opposite. With every new release I recall how much enjoy her writing and want to start all over again from the start. Wrap up: basically if you've read the other parts of this series and are a fan then this book should not disappoint. If you haven't read the other books by lordy don't start here you'll be hella confused. My only tiny complaint is that this book did seem to be really heavy with the love triangle/threesome relationships. No body seems to be 100% certain on who they feel what for. Still loved the read though.

      The sequel to Lady Midnight finds that Malcolm Fade is still a threat to the Blackthorns after death: now the area is being terrorized by water demons and it's all Julian and Emma can do to destroy what Malcolm's unleashed. A group of Centurions, including Cristina's former flame Diego, a special group of Shadowhunters are sent to the Los Angeles Institute to search out the Black Volume of necromancy that Malcolm was using to attempt to resurrect his love, Annabel Blackthorn. Meanwhile, Kit Rook has learned he's a Herondale and a Shadowhunter, but despite his growing friendship with twins Ty and Livvy he's not sure he wants to have any part of this life.Another solid entry in the series and has a little bit of everything Clare fans have come to expect: forbidden love (and triangles or similar complications), fast pacing, sarcastic dialog. This one ends on a particularly maddening cliffhanger, so if you hate them (as I do), I recommend waiting 'til the next book is out before tacking this one, which clocks in at 699 pages.
