About this audiobook
Nine months of tying tourniquets and pushing new medications, of IVs, chest compressions, and defibrillator shocks-that was Kevin Grange's initiation into emergency medicine when, at age thirty-six, he enrolled in the "Harvard of paramedic schools": UCLA's Daniel Freeman paramedic program, long considered one of the best and most intense paramedic training programs in the world.
Few jobs can match the stress, trauma, and drama that a paramedic calls a typical day at the office, and few educational settings can match the pressure and competitiveness of paramedic school. Blending months of classroom instruction with ER rotations and a grueling field internship with the Los Angeles Fire Department, UCLA's paramedic program is like a mix of boot camp and med school. It would turn out to be the hardest thing Grange had ever done but also the most transformational and inspiring.
An in-depth look at the trials and tragedies that paramedic students experience daily, Lights and Sirens is ultimately about the best part of humanity-people working together to help save a human life.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was so great and eye opening!! It was so descriptive that I felt like I was with paramedic Grange! I suggest it to anyone who is interested in EMS! I am starting EMT training soon, and I hope to one day attend UCLA paramedic school, so I found this book quite helpful!

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I grew to love the author and to feel all his frustrations, his love for his career, hid hopes, defeats and triumphs. The book kept me interested during every moment I listened, fearing when he feared, joyful when he was joyful. He demonstrates such beautiful qualities of the best of humanity. Lastly, I have a new respect for this lofty group of public servants, and will never cease to praise those I meet. This is a heroic journey for any person who seeks to join its ranks, and their training ranks high in a similar way to how the US Marines rank high. It takes strength of will beyond the norm, and a mind and heart in full balance. Like the Marines, it takes a special kind of person to handle this level of care and responsibility. A truly memorable story!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Author was honest and open about his paramedic journey. The complexities and details were very insightful into what EMS personnel face on a daily basis.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It’s was the perfect balance between spot on theory and engaging immersive story telling!! I absolutely enjoyed this.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing book with a great narrator! The narrator really brought the book to life. The book itself had my tearing up, laughing along and leaving truly inspired. I love the stories of patient connections, trauma calls and the other students. This book will walk you through why someone chooses the profession, the schooling experience and the practicum experience. I will definitely be listening to this one again whenever I need the uplifting messages within it. “The best way out, is through.”
