About this audiobook

A Tom Gray Novel: Book 1

When ex-soldier Tom Gray loses his wife and child to a career criminal, it seems life can't get much worse. But when the killer is let off with time served on remand, Gray knows there is something fundamentally wrong with the justice system. Engaging the help of his ex-SAS buddies, he kidnaps five repeat offenders and asks the public to vote on their fate: Should they be allowed to continue their criminal ways with inadequate punishment, or has Britain had enough?

His website attracts a worldwide audience and, although the authorities know where he is, they are powerless to stop him.

Can Gray carry out his audacious plan? Will Andrew Harvey and his fellow MI5 operatives find a way to stop him?

Gray Justice, the first book in the Tom Gray series, is more than a simple tale of revenge: it's a rollercoaster ride with an ending you'll never forget.

I have to admit I put off reading this for the longest time because the reviews are all over the place with ratings from 1 to 5. But it sounded good and I'm glad I finally read it. I was hooked right away and glued to my seat from the get-go. This was a can't-put-down page-turner. Certainly, it's a vigilante anti-hero vengeance story with a highly unlikely scenario and belief has to be suspended to enjoy it. The better title would have been "Gray Vengeance". I won't critique it as I could go on about what was wrong with the logic of the plot, the dialogue, the writing, etc. But in all honesty and reality, I didn't care. I loved it!!! I didn't like Tom Gray, he is morally ambiguous and not even relativistic as he knows he's doing wrong but doesn't care and thinks if he can get through the loopholes then so what. But I will definitely be returning for book 2 (which I have) as the ending was intriguing and I would love to go another round with this testosterone filled action-adventure political thriller series. Sometimes books are just a heck of a lot of fun!

Interesting premise. Good action/thriller. Ending was predictable about 1/2 way through though.

Overall good enough that I am interested in reading the next volume in the grey series at some point.

Many of us would sympathise with Tom Gray's decision to do something about out of control youngsters and repeat offenders, although we might not quite agree with his methodology. What he attempts to do, however, is well handled by the author, keeping us in the dark for quite a while. The way things develop through the sub plot leads to only one probable conclusion, but Alan McDermott has worked out how the story is to end, and that ending makes you want to read more in the series. A tautly paced and highly enjoyable thriller by a relatively new author.

I really liked this, perhaps because the views on justice and punishment resonate with me so much. I say the recidivists should be birched and then perhaps they may change their ways. But I also like the action in this story and the way it all unfolded without being long and drawn out. I look forward to the next book.

Tom Gray, former SAS member, goes rogue in an attempt to change the laws within the U.K. In his mind, change is needed; there seems to be more repeat offenders outside of the prison system than inside. Penalties are far too lenient and violators are getting off scott free. The system does not allow for regret or lessons learned so the same behavior continues. Tom Gray's young son is killed in an auto accident by one of these repeat offenders - his wife commits suicide six months after the loss of her only son. It's time to pay! Tom is a mastermind, and with the help of some of his former colleagues, prepares to take the law into his own hands. They kidnap repeat offenders - including the one that killed his son - and hold court in a remote location. Tom and his team use the skills they've developed over time to set-up a highly defended perimeter; one that will neutralize modern spy gadgets and protect him from invading forces. Using the internet, Tom solicits the support from people all around the country. Court will be held...the records of the kidnapped felons will be read...the people will then vote if they are to live or die!Meanwhile, while this saga continues to play out, the government is trying everything to put a stop to this madness. The public has voted to kill the first prisoner - the same one that had killed Tom's son. Will he execute the man live on the internet? Time is running out! What nobody else realizes is that this distraction has opened the door for a real terrorist attack on the U.K. - one that will kill millions. You'll have to read the book to see how this all plays out. I have to warn you though, you may lose sleep trying to get through this one. Excellent fun, this: no-nonsense ex-SAS man goes renegade in hyper-well-planned vigilante operation. Unimpeachable motive, tough line in cold vengeance, all tools, hardware and software at fingertips, months spent on pat answers to all awkward questions, loyal band of friends to help. Success of mission guaranteed.

Short sentences. Action. Gripping stuff. Very blokeish, very butch. Grrr.

Don't know much about art, but know what I like; as books for non-readers go, and sometimes I'm one of them, this is grrreat! Literature's very own Expendable.

Really enjoyed it. Now off to read a proper book.
