This 3rd and final installment is a significant improvement on the previous book. Not only is the mystery surrounding the disappearance of Maximillian Ferringer explained (and in a satisfying manner), but the romance between the cold and aloof Brandon and the feisty Victoria is intense and believable.
While the details regarding Max's secretive profession aren't all that surprising, the circumstances leading up to his disappearance are original, and leave the reader with a better understanding of the man.
Brandon and Victoria's relationship is the highlight of the book as these two lonely people struggle against their attraction, but ultimately realize that they are better together than apart. Even though the inclusion of young children in romance novels is not one of my preferred tropes, Victoria's son, Randy, is simply charming and his scenes with Brandon are very engaging.
The Hot Shot and firefighting storyline provide additional tension and suspense to both the mystery and the romance.
All in all, a satisfying end to the series. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Written by Lisa Gardner under this pen name. Wellll--not my cup of tea really. Too predictable. Okay plot but you knew all along what was going to happen. So so.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Lisa Gardner, a well known crime novelist, is the author of Brandon's Bride writing as Alicia Scott. It is the third book in the "Family Secrets Trilogy." Brandon's Bride can be read as a stand alone novel. I read it as a stand alone without realizing it was part of a trilogy until after I began it. Since I was already hooked, I continued reading and found I enjoyed it very much as a stand alone. In the "Family Secrets Trilogy," Brandon Ferringer and his two siblings have been on a quest for several years trying to untangle events leading to their father's disappearance. In Brandon's Bride, Brandon follows a lead to a small town in Oregon and becomes a "hotshot" so he can secretly search for information about his father. While in Oregon, Brandon needs housing and rents a room at a local ranch. Brandon finds the ranch owner very attractive. The feeling is mutual for owner, Victoria. As their love affair grows, they become entangled in the mystery.I found the plot of Brandon's Bride predictable - but not in a bad way. I feel that there is so much going on in this story with Brandon and Victoria individually, that making their love story twist and turn would have caused the plot to become so complicated, the reader would have lost enjoyment. Yes, it was predictable that two attractive people who are put together on a remote ranch would fall in love. Thus, we have the love story of Brandon and Victoria. With that being a "given," readers can focus on the individual complications each character brings to the story.I found myself intrigued in both the danger Victoria and her family encounter from her ex-husband, and in the mystery of Brandon's father's disappearance. Both story lines move along on individual threads that become intertwined in the end. The love story between Brandon and Victoria becomes "icing on the cake" to the suspenseful mystery that climaxes as Brandon completes his quest. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Best of the three in the series. Mystery is solved regarding the father (Maximillian the Chameleon). Noble and kindhearted hero in this book, Brandon Ferringer, is a wildland firefighter (hotshot) among other things, i.e., a British multi-millionaire investment broker. He's (unrealistically) the perfect man, but it's a great story. A lot of suspense and successful character building.
