About this audiobook

#1 New York Times-Bestselling Author: The best of friends, Toots, Ida, Mavis, and Sophie have been there for each other through thick and thin...

Teresa "Toots" Amelia Loudenberry has her quirks, but no one would ever question her loyalty. So it's no surprise when Toots decides to extend her stay in Charleston to help care for her ailing housekeeper.

Though the Charleston air is drenched with azalea and honeysuckle, and there's always a pitcher of sweet tea close to hand, the ladies have little time for relaxing. Ida's new line of cosmetics is about to launch, and Toots, Mavis, and Sophie are relishing new careers as models. And Abby, Toots's daughter, is getting hitched. In the middle of so much change, Toots is almost too busy to notice her own unexpected romance. After eight husbands, she's sworn never to get involved again. But fate—and her friends—may have other plans. And every godmother, fairy or otherwise, loves a story that ends with happily-ever-after . . .

Fern Michaels

New York Times bestselling author Fern Michaels has a passion for romance, often with a dash of suspense and drama. It stems from her other joys in life—her family, animals, and historic home. She is usually found in South Carolina, where she is either tapping out stories on her computer, rescuing or supporting animal organizations, or dabbling in some kind of historical restoration.

I've now read the 3rd and 5th books in this series and have enjoyed the quick light read. In many ways the cast of characters reminds me of my own family, just needs some card playing in there! It does have elements of romance and mystery in there so it's entertaining for me.

Reviewed by: RobinBook provided by: PublisherReview originally posted at Romancing the BookThe Godmothers are at it again in Breaking News. As a Fern Michaels fan I was not disappointed. Although I have to admit this wasn’t as in depth as some of her other works, I still found it to be a fun read.Toots and the other ‘godmothers’ Sophie, Mavis and Ida are simply delightful. Even with their crass vulgar ways. I know that just being around older people they tend to tell it like it is and their language changes as they become older. It just makes them seem more real and loveable. A fourth godmother kind of an honorary one is Jamie, Toot’s partner in the bakery. As these delightful ladies deal with life we find them helping Toot’s housekeeper Bernice after her heart attack. In between helping Bernice and the constant bickering between friends, Toots’s daughter Abby is kidnapped by RAG-Rodwell Archibald Godfrey the previous owner of the Informer the newspaper that Abby works for. He is asking a $10 million dollar ransom. He feels they owe it to him after undermining him in taking over the newspaper. While all this is going on a romance between Toots and Phil, Bernice’s doctor. He proves to be indispensable as he helps the ‘godmothers’ in their adventure.I loved this lighthearted read that was not only fun but relaxing. The characters are a hoot and I fell in love with the way they bicker, laugh, cry and share their lives with each other. They made the story seem that much more real.Ms. Michaels has a way of bringing a touch of real life into her stories that makes you want to invite these eccentric ladies into your home for tea or coffee.

This is the first book that I have read by Fern Michaels. I have seen her books and have thought about reading them. Since I had one this one in LT Earlyreviewers program I was finally getting a chance to read one of her books.Breaking News in number 5 in the Godmothers series. I have never read any of the previous ones and I was still able to follow along with the characters, and story. The beginning of the book was slow because you are introduced to the main characters and start to get a feel for the relationship between all of them. The main characters are all 'Seasoned' adults. You have Toots, Bernice, Mavis, Ida and Sophia. You also have Abby who is Toots daughter and Chris who is Toots stepson and a friend of Abby's and becomes more as the story progresses.Abby is editor in chief of a tabloid magazine that is owned by her mother. Her mother bought the magazine for a steal and also because it is her daughter's dream job.Breaking News has a bit of everything. I found myself laughing out loud at some of the comments the characters made. Toots is a multimillionaire, Ida is an entrepreneur of cosmetics, Mavis makes dead people look good, Sophie is a smart ass. Bernice is the housekeeper who is loved by all. This is a very fast and entertaining read and will be looking for the previous ones to play catch up. So if you are looking for a fast, light read then grab Breaking News and sit back and enjoy!

I read and I read, all the while thinking," Why oh why haven't I read the rest of this series first!" However, being this side of neurotic I finished the book and am now running along to get the previous books in the series. Great story line Ms. Michaels!

I have read Fern Michaels books in the past and loved them. I don't know what happened with this one. I am not faulting Ms. Michaels writing at all. I simply could not get into this book. I tried and tried. 3 or 4 chapters in I finally gave up. The story seem scattered to me and the comedy (a senior citizen wealthy woman who designs makeup for corpses) just didn't do it for me.As with others a few months down the road I may not be able to put it down. If so I will post a new review!

I received this through the Early Reveiwers Book Club. This was the fourth book in the series and I had not read the first ones so it was confusing at first. The story was good once you got into. It was about several woman who are the Godmother to one of the woman's daughter. There was a kidnapping and the women all come together to help solve the case. Fern Michaels is a great author and I love reading her books. Have read her books all the back to when she was writing for Harlarquin. Her stories are always good.

This novel started out describing so many women it was confusing to me. However, it turns out that they were all godmothers to oneof the women's daughter. The language was atrocious but the plot was good. The daughter was kidnapped. All of the women ended lup with a new love interest. The way the kidnap plot played out was different and on the whole the book was more interesting than it started out. I would recomment it.

I received this book as an early reviewer. This is the first time I have read a book by Fern Michaels and I found it to be an enjoyable read. This book is part of the Godmother series. The main characters are all the same with the introduction of Bernice's cardiologist, Phil Becker. I enjoyed this book and will go back and read the other books in the Godmother series. My mother is a Fern Michaels fan so I will pass this book to her and read the books she has. I recommend this book as a nice, enjoyable read.

I have always enjoyed the Fern Michaels books I have read in the past. However, I found this book, as far as I've read, totally confusing. I don't know what the characters are referring to half the time. Doing some online research I discovered this was the 4th book in the Godmother series and without having read any of the previous books defnitely left me confused. Yes, I know, Toot's has been married 8 times, it's mentioned at least once in each chapter. I really wish I could say I loved (or at least liked) this book, but I can't.

This is the latest in the Godmother's series. Abby is kidnapped by her former boss and Toots along with her friends try to find her. Along the way the Godmothers find love for themselves as do Abby and Chris.Loved this book from beginning to end. Ms. Michaels weaves a story like no other. This is a very fast read and I had it finished in a couple of hours. You can't go wrong with a Fern Michaels book.
