About this audiobook

National Bestselling Author Alan Jacobson brings back renowned FBI Profiler Karen Vail in an intelligent thriller that bridges time and space.

When an elderly woman is found raped and brutally murdered in San Francisco, Vail heads west to team up with SFPD Inspector Lance Burden and her former task force colleague, Detective Roxxann Dixon.

As Vail, Burden, and Dixon follow the killer's trail in and around San Francisco, the offender continues his rampage, leaving behind clues that ultimately lead them to the most unlikely of places: a mysterious island ripped from city lore whose long-buried, decades-old secrets hold the key to their case. Alcatraz. The Rock.

It's a case that has more twists and turns than the famed Lombard Street...and a novel that Clive Cussler calls "A powerful thriller, brilliantly conceived and written."

I only gave this 4 stars for the Walton character, I did not like or care about any of the other characters.

It's been several years since I read book three in this series but it only took me pages to remember why I liked it so much. Karen Vail is a fantastic character, very sarcastuc and not very likable but smaty as a horse's whip. She's an FBI Profiler called out to California to work on a serial killer case involving an unsub who turtures and violently rapes elderly women then kidnaps, kills and displays the husbands at tourist sites. Bodies are racked up faster than the coroner can get them to the morgue and the killer starts send Karen personal messages. What's cool with this entry is it has tie-ins with the infamous Alcatraz escape in 1962 and flasbacks every other chapter to the 1960s to follow a fictional con who is wrapped up with historical chracters and events. A fast-paced, action packed thriller with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the end. I'll be continuing on with this series soon.

    Tedious. Filled with extraneous details.

Somewhere in this 15 hour audiobook is a good mystery begging to be set free.

    Needs a good editor.

Very slow to start. I found the prison scenes more interesting than the police scenes, due to the annoying and glib banter between Vail and just about everyone. Halfway through the action started to pick up, and the book got so much better. Very satisfactory ending.

A good read. The author does a good job of researching the topic.
