About this audiobook
Whether it's exhilarating historical romance or spine-tingling contemporary suspense, #1 New York Times bestselling author Julie Garwood weaves magnificent stories of passion, adventure, and intrigue. Now she raises the heat and spices up the action with a sexy, smart, daring new heroine and a smoldering thriller that's classic Garwood-and pure Sizzle.
Lyra Prescott, a Los Angeles film student, is closing in on graduation and facing important decisions about her future. She's already been offered a job at her hometown TV station, an opportunity that could ultimately launch her dream career as a film editor. But heading back home would also mean dealing with her overprotective brothers, social-climbing mother, and eccentric grandmother. Unsure of her future, Lyra dives into work on her final school assignment: a documentary transformed by a twist of fate into a real-life horror film.
After she unwittingly captures a shocking crime on camera, a rash of mysterious, treacherous incidents convince Lyra that she's trapped in a sinister scenario headed for a violent ending. Running scared, she turns to her best friend, Sidney Buchanan, whose connections bring dauntless and devilishly handsome FBI agent Sam Kincaid into Lyra's life. As the noose of deadly intrigue tightens and the feelings between them deepen, Lyra and Sam must place their faith in each other's hands-and stand together against the malevolent forces about to break loose.
No one mixes life-and-death suspense with feverish desire better than Julie Garwood. In Sizzle she burns hotter and brighter than ever, keeping the action and passion blazing till the incredible, unforgettable end.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I loved everything about this book! The characters were great and so was the storyline.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I enjoyed her book, as usual I love her heros, and I didn't want to stop reading. I was also amused by her bad guy. He gave me a couple chuckles.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Lyra Prescott is a documentary film student, who when stopping at a yard sale where the angry wife of a very rich man is giving everything away for free, picks up something she's not even aware she has. And someone else needs it and will stop at nothing to obtain it.
I thought the book was okay but in retrospect it was lacking any originality. Lyra, who is said to not fall into bed with anyone on a whim, falls into bed with Sam in a matter of days. Every character seems to be either the most attractive woman to grace the planet or have the most chiseled body known to man. While both characters were very likable I didn't feel like she spent enough time focused on them. There were so many subplots and other characters' narratives that it got bogged down. There were a few subplots that could have been left out of the book entirely and it wouldn't have made much of a difference to the plot. 2 stars and that was being generous. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Everything about the I loved. I have just about all of her books. I have read them over an over again. I love her. She can write anything.. her books have me spelled bound.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I started out really liking the quirky thug involved in this story, but unfortunately it turned into a typical romance. Probably won't read any more of this authors books - romance books are so predictable.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sizzle was a solid book by Julie Garwood. It lost a star because it was a little uneven in pacing - it started a little slower than I would have liked and then felt a little rushed in later sections. Overall, I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good contemporary romantic suspense novel. The plot was engaging, the villains by turns ominous and funny (in the stupid criminal way), and Sam and Lyra have good chemistry and a believable connection. A solid entry in the Buchanan/Renard/MacKenna series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really like this series of books by Julie Garwood. I will say she has started to stretch the concept a little though. The series used to about the brothers in a large family as the main characters love interests. Then she added the sisters. This one the female main character was the roommate of one of the sisters, and the male main character had saved one of the brother’s life. Still, the writing is enjoyable and easy to read, it has the suspense element which I enjoy, and the plots are always different and interesting. And I have to confess, I did develop a mini-crush on the man in this one. I wonder where she will take this series next, it’s hard to imagine where it can go, and at the same time, I hope she never stops writing these.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved this book, and went right back to the library and got the rest of this author's novels. I have recently been unable to finish high anxiety provoking novels, so was hesitant to start this suspense book. The author uses humor, and interesting characters in a delightful way, weaving and creating scenarios toward a delightful end. Lyra Prescott is a film student in LA, and needs to finish a project to graduate. She stumbles upon a yard sale, and in buying the collectible books and CD's, sets herself up to be killed. How it is being planned and executed leaves the reader smiling, and wondering why all criminals can't be as bungling and stupid. It would make police work so much simpler and allow the intended victims another day to live and love. There is murder, mayhem, explosives and passion, but all done in a neatly-crafted novel. Run, don't walk, to the bookstore/library to get this book. And while there, you might as well order the other books by this author, because she simply is one of the best when wanting a novel about passion, adventure and intrigue. Done lightly.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Film school student Lyra Prescott unwittingly films the scene of a crime and now she seems to be a target for a series of dangerous "incidents". Her roommate and best friend, Sidney, has brothers in law enforcement who find Lyra an FBI bodyguard to watch out for her until she is safe. FBI agent Alex Buchanan is on a short leave from the Agency, but takes his responsibiity seriously. As Alex and Lyra spend every moment together trying to solve the mystery of who is trying to kill Lyra, they become attracted to each other. Alex is on leave for only a few days, but he realizes that no one else is good enough to protect Lyra.Garwood is one of my favorite romantic suspense authors. Her novels are usually very taut and suspenseful. This novel has several plot lines going which adds to the suspense, but also detracts. Sometimes it gets confusing as to who the "bad guys" really are. Sizzle is entertaining, but not one of my favorite Garwood thrillers.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Audiobook - a little comedy, a little mystery and a little romance makes a good, entertaining book.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5A little light reading to pass the time, but certainly not enough suspense or character development for you to actually feel any sizzle. . . .
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Well written; a great beach read. The plot moves along and the characters interact well together. Fans of romantic suspense should enjoy this one.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Listened to it on audible. Took awhile to get into it, but enjoyed it in the end. I have liked the other books in this series better.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love Julie Garwood novels and this one does not disappoint. I devoured this book in less than 2 hours, it was sooo good.Basic premise Lyra is in danger and in step Scottish hottie FBI agent Sam to protect her. Of course this being a Julie Garwood novel they fall in love in the process.Wonderfully written and very entertaining.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5According to Fantastic Fiction Sizzle is part of Julie Garwood’s Buchanan series. I didn’t realize this when I grabbed it from the new release shelf at my local library. I thought cute cover, catchy title; I might as well give it a whirl. I didn’t have any difficulty reading it as a standalone novel. The Buchanans were primarily supporting characters. I don’t feel their back stories would have made me like Sizzle any more or any less. I felt the writing was so-so and the plot was predictable. The steamy bedroom scenes were a pleasant surprise. That was really the only time I didn't find the characters boring. They were likeable but nothing special. I never really connected with any of them. Some of the dialogue didn’t seem to go well with the age of the characters and the era they were living in. It almost gave it a dated feeling. It was obviously modern day because the author dropped names like Chase Crawford and Rob Pattinson. The protagonist Lyra also mentioned her iPhone several times. For the record I'm not a fan of name dropping in books. If I had to sum up my feelings on Sizzle in one sentence I would say it was a cute and quick read but not a book that grabbed me and made me miss the characters when it was over.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5When film student Lyla Prescott begins her final project little does she know that the subject matter will land her not just in garbage up to her knees but on the run from thuggish attackers. With a family connection to the FBI she's well-protected, but bullets and car bombs don't care who they take out.FBI agent Sam Kincaid agrees to take on the task of guarding Lyla temporarily - after all, he owes her brothers. But it's only temporary... at least that's what he keeps telling himself. The fact that Lyla's gorgeous and sexy and in need of a hero shouldn't make him change his mind - should it?Marginal. Garwood has a deft turn with historical romances, but her contemporary ones just aren't as good. This one's okay, but predictable - and the funny bits seem forced.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sizzle is Julie Garwood’s latest contemporary romance. And it has all the bells and whistles. It has spunk, it has murder and it has mayhem and of course it has romance.Julie gives us a great new read in Sizzle. Her characters are wonderfully portrayed., they are beautifully detailed and she knows each one intimately. Her hero FBI agent Sam Kincaid and heroine Lyra Prescott are bigger than life and yet as cozy as your next door neighbors. She is an amazing storyteller and it shows as she spins this mystery and leaves her readers wondering who done it until the very end. The romance is first class and lives up to it’s title because you’ll need a fan going to get through the love scenes which are hot and yet very sweet. So get ready for the ride of your life in this exciting, nail biting, roller coaster romance.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book was entertaining, and I read it in a few evenings. There were a couple aspects that are unbelievable, but that was ok with me. There was a definite attraction between Sam and Lyra and the plot was fast paced.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Quick read. Good book.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Lyra Prescott is a documentary film student, who when stopping at a yard sale where the angry wife of a very rich man is giving everything away for free, picks up something she’s not even aware she has. And someone else needs it and will stop at nothing to obtain it.When Sidney Buchanan, her best friend and roommate gets hurt during a break-in, Sidney gets her FBI brother, Alec, to help out by sending agents to guard the two women while the police investigate.Lyra and FBI Agent Sam Kincaid (descendent of the Kincaids from "The Bride"), are immediately attracted, but both believe there’s no possible future for them and try to deny their feelings. With a number of attempts on her life, the culprit and reason behind it isn’t as obvious as it seems. We also follow the humorous antics of an inept hitman. This book had the feel of the same old thing as this author has used the same formula for all of her books in this series. The main characters are so gorgeous that many other characters are attracted to them, and at least one of the characters is always sure that a relationship wouldn’t be possible. On the plus side, we also get to see thoughts and actions through the eyes of the bad guy as well as the main characters. The humor is good and the antics of Lyra's parents is interesting. It would be difficult not to like her grandmother Gigi. One of the things I’ve come to enjoy about this series is the number of ancestry tie-ins to her earlier historical books, now from at least 3 prior series/settings. The book is definitely a good read, but I hope the author will consider altering the formula in her next release.
