OMG, I don't know how Lee Child will top this novel and I can't wait to see him try!! In Chicago, a dentist is abducted and thrown in his Lexus. Then Jack and an unknown woman are abducted too and thrown in the Lexus also. The book is a hold on to your seat and rapidly read as Jack and the woman join forces to try to outwit the men, unfortunately the FBI thinks than Jack is one of the men! Now, I need to read the next book! HMM, what was the title again?

Jack Reacher, an ex-military policeman, is kidnapped while being an innocent bystander. Jack and the intended victim, Holly, begin to communicate to figure out the reason behind the kidnapping and how they are going to escape. This kidnapping scenario was very intriguing, and I enjoyed the book a lot for about a third of it, then it began to wane. My interest wasn't totally lost, but I was tired of the dragged-out plot. The best part was how Jack made general observations that lead him to discoveries. These observations were not at a rocket scientist's level, but interesting nonetheless. I hope his character deepens as the series moves along because I really don't know much about this guy and I want to.Originally posted on: Thoughts of Joy

Digital Audio read by Johnathan McClain.3.5*** Book # 2 in the Jack Reacher series has Reacher inadvertently caught up in a kidnapping, when he stops to help a woman on crutches manage her dry cleaning. He notices that she is strangely calm and collected. Holly Johnson is an FBI agent … and also the daughter and god-daughter of two powerful men. Gosh but these books are addictive! Reacher is former military police, and now is roaming about taking odd jobs. He’s certainly got his hands full this time. With no advance warning or preparation, he’s thrust in the middle of a madman’s plan to MAKE A STATEMENT. He has the skill and opportunity to escape several times but refuses to leave Holly behind. Sometimes he uses brute force, other times psychological manipulation. I like that in this book, Holly Johnson is a strong female …. She may be on crutches, but she is far from helpless. Brava!Implausible though it may be, Child gives the reader a fast-paced thriller full of action and intrigue. Johnathan McClain does a fine job narrating the audio. He sets a brisk pace, has clear diction, and I loved the voice he used for the villain!

I am not a fan of the Jack Reacher series, but I had to read for a book club. The violence and constant talk of guns ruins the story, for me. In this rambling tale of Jack Reacher, he happens upon a kidnapping and ends up as one of the captives. The story revolves around a crazy, Hitler-like man that hopes to withdraw from the government and form his own community. The community shows dictatorship in the extreme, and the fear of the “inmates”. As in all the Reacher novels, Jack must “fall” for the female involved, but as always Jack heads out alone to his next adventure as the story concludes. The language falls short of being eloquent, and I feel that I am reading an elementary primer with all the he said, or she said on the pages. This is not a cozy mystery nor a thriller, but somewhere in the middle.

Jack Reacher finds himself in the wrong place at the wrong time as he gets swept up in the kidnapping of Holly Johnson, FBI agent and daughter of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. A radical faction hell-bent on seceding from the US and creating their own country is using Holly as ransom, and it becomes Reacher's responsibility to not only escape, but to stop the inevitable. Lee Child writes a fast-paced, well-penned story with a lot of impressive technical detail and well-developed characters. This one was a joy to read.

Very fast-paced, exciting beginning. However, about halfway through, got bogged down in detail and seemed to go nowhere for awhile. I finished the book but, overall, it felt pretty average. This is the third book I've read in this series and will probably leave it and move on to other things.

I've read two other Lee Child/Jack Reacher books and enjoyed both of them. However, I can't say the same for this one. I became bored with this one about half way through and just started skimming. It was the same plot (basically) as the first two books of his I had read. I guess this will be the last book I will read in the series.

This is one of my favorite Reacher stories. The vulnerablitiy he showed, his passion and compassion, and his strenght of character were wonderful.

Still one of my favourites. Jack at his best being courteous, skilled and when necessary violent. Scared of no-one, running free. But not quite in accordance with the milita unit that stumbles across him. They have a very different idea about being free.

I really enjoyed this story. Good story line and a bit of a twist at the end wrapped it up nicely. The only constructive criticism is that it felt a bit dragged out. Kind of like going to a 3 hour movie that should have been 2 maybe 2 1/2 hours. Maybe it was just me? Overall I would recommend. I am starting to get hooked on Jack Reacher. Started listening to the series on the way to work, after I ran out of my usual series I follow- Mitch Rapp, Scot Horvath, and Dewey Andrea's!

Killing Floor was better. Die Trying covered too much time and distance. It started July 1 and ended on the Fourth of July. Not enough stuff happened to take up the time. The beginning was transporting two kidnapped victims from Illinois to Montana. There was some good reading, but also 'when will this be over?' parts. I didn't think the action at the end was well done. Basically it was taking time moving from one side of the compound to another.5,138 members; 3.79 average rating; 3/11/2021

When Lee Child's first book came out last year, I was mesmerized. This one is better. His character - Jack Reacher - is truly unforgettable and the way Child weaves a story is fascinating. In Die Trying, Reacher is walking down the street when he sees a woman coming out of the dry cleaners struggling with her load. He stops to help. They are both then stopped by two guys with guns and a car and kidnapped. Child makes it work and work beautifully. This author is definitely one to read.

I know I enjoyed reading this at the time a long few weeks ago, but thinking back on it (having since finished another Child), I think to myself what a stupid story. But, boy, when you're in the middle of it, driving in the back of a van, distractedly falling a bit in love, trying along with Reacher and his friends to not get killed, it's fun and always interesting.

Second book in the series. This book is better than #1, or maybe I'm just becoming accustomed to the writing. The writing is inconsistent. Sometimes going into incredible detail, other times skipping by things that would be inconvenient to reveal. This was an easy, one-thing-after-another read, so i enjoyed it. Fine literature, it's not. Fun read? yep!

This is my second Child thriller and I enjoyed it. In some ways they remind me of books by the great 1960s thriller writer John D. MacDonald. This one was fun and interesting.

Die Trying is the 5th full length Jack Reacher novel by chronology, 2nd by publishing order, and the improvements over Killing Floor are clear.Die Trying is pretty much a non-stop thrill ride, Reacher is accidentally scooped up during the kidnapping of a FBI agent by a bunch of militia who see conspiracies everywhere and wish to succeed from the United States. Despite the main female character stating she has eyes for someone else, once again, for the 5th book in a row, Reacher beds the main female character. I don't really think this adds much to the books but I guess there's a certain market out there that eats this sort of thing up.Overall, it was a good story with a nice climactic ending.

Once again, Jack Reacher is in the wrong place at the wrong time. In an effort to help a disabled woman wrangle her week's worth of dry cleaning Reacher is held at gun point and kidnapped along with the woman on crutches. Only she is no ordinary woman. She is Holly Johnson, daughter to the chairman of the joint chief of staff, only the highest ranking military post in the United States. Now it's a race against...what? No one has taken credit for the kidnapping. There hasn't been a ransom note. No demands for her safe return whatsoever. Why was Holly taken?I enjoyed Child's "peep show" storytelling. He would show a glimpse of what the bad guys were up to (obviously always no good) for only a few pages and then return to Holly's FBI rescuers and their efforts to figure out where she had gone. Additionally, Child's knowledge of guns and their inner workings seemed didactic at times, but in truth it was fascinating. I reread the description of exactly what happens scientifically when a gun is fired several times.

A lot of twists.... it held my interest even though not to believable. Nobody has as many lives as Reacher.

A scenario with so much potential: Reacher and a mysterious woman grabbed off the streets at gunpoint and forced into a white van going somewhere. The synopsis made me more excited than any Jack Reacher book ever has. Sadly, it would feature around the middle of my ranking of the 12 or so novels I have read in this series. It is thoroughly enjoyable, but not as enthralling as I had hoped it to be.
