About this audiobook
Based on historical fact, this audiobook is full of intrigue and chivalry, and at a time when Normandy was not part of France. This is the romantic childhood history of Richard the Fearless, Duke of Normandy. After his father was assassinated, when he was just nine years old, he is kidnapped and imprisoned by Louis of France who wanted to annex Normandy.
But thanks to the bravery and daring of Richard's loyal squire and knight, Osmond de Centeville, he makes good his escape. Richard's great grandson was to become William the Conqueror and King of England. The story is full of suspense and bravery, of loyalty and resolve under the most scary cirucumstances. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Classic nineteenth century story of Richard the Fearless, ancestor of William the Conqueror and son of Duke William Longsword (not of William the Conqueror as the blurb inaccurately says). Longsword is treacherous slain while Richard is only 8 years old, but he survives and eventually regains his ducal rights. I liked the story very much as a child but do not remember details now.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5We have tried to listen to this recording however it won’t work. Nothing will play and it always tells us “buffering”.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This has been one of the kids favorite historical fiction selections this year. The struggles of a little boy to be a good leader in the absence of his father and amidst political turmoil were definitely an intriguing story. I think they identified with him in many ways as a child trying hard to do what is right and to be kind to those who treat you poorly. I enjoyed the richness of the story and loved that the children begged me to read more but it seemed long winded sometimes. Despite that we enjoyed this book thoroughly.
