About this audiobook
The second book in the middle-grade dystopian fantasy series that Kirkus Reviews calls “The Hunger Games meets Harry Potter,” by New York Times bestselling author Lisa McMann.
Following the life-altering events at the conclusion of The Unwanteds, the stark world of Quill and the magical haven of Artimé are now home to whoever wants to live there, whether they are Wanteds, Unwanteds, or Necessaries.
In Artimé, Alex Stowe and his friends continue to hone their artistic magical spells while welcoming newcomers, wondering how long this peace between Quill and Artimé will last. Alex is stunned when Mr. Today comes to him with a very special request—one Alex questions his readiness for, until circumstances offer a dramatic answer.
And back in Quill, Aaron Stowe, Alex’s twin, faces a very different path. Devastated by his loss of status after Justine’s defeat and seething with rage toward Alex, Aaron is stealthily planning his revenge and return to power.
Alex and Aaron’s separate stories proceed with suspenseful pacing, colliding in a stunning climax that elevates sibling rivalry to epic proportions and leaves the fate of both worlds hanging in the balance.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A digital galley of this title was given to me, free, in exchange for my honest review. How could you do this to me Ms. McMann??!!!How could you weave sucha magical and wonderful story, force me on a stomach-clenching emotional rollercoaster and then just leave me hanging? That is cruel, cruel punishment and extremely unfair! The Unwanteds was a nice read with a pretty satisfying ending; the story was complete on its own but left you wanting more. I was even curious about what was going to happen. But not so with Island of Silence! I was left with so many questions and so many unresolved feelings. I wonder if it would have been better to waited for book 3 to come out. I am not a fan of cliffhangers at all!!! That is why my rule, in general, is to wait until most of a series is out before I start it. This is not to say that IOS is not worth picking up, because it so totally is. Putting aside the cliffhanger ending, I really enjoyed reading this. There is so much to love with this book. First, being the tremendous growth and development with the characters. Then there?s the plot- it literally pulls you in with little nuggets at a time. The deception, misplaced trust, and other unknowns keep you at the edge of your seat. There?s the main question of what is becoming of Alex and Aaron, the twins who remain on opposing side. But other issues keep popping up. The Unwanteds who once faced the purge, now have the opportunity to go back to Quill and reunite with their families. Some of them have been welcomed back while others have been met with open rejection. The friendship between Lani, Samheed, Meghan and Alex has grown as has their responsibility in Artime. This time it was so much easier to connect with the characters and rally on the side of Artime (and not just because they were the good guys). Atrtime is something that I believe in and could stand by. Alex was a bit of a whiner in the first book, but now he is maturing. I can understand why Mr. Today has chosen him for the position he wants to give Alex. Even though Alex doesn?t see himself as the leader Mr. Today sees him as, when the time comes Alex steps into that role smoothly and without consciously deciding to do so. He does what he does because it is the right thing to do. He really does become the leader he was meant to be. Amidst the mess and struggle of blending the two worlds together, Aaron finds himself lost and far from where he wants to be. But that doesn?t stop him. After a brief period of wandering around, he comes up with a plan and starts recruiting disgruntled Wanteds. It is only the beginning of his twisted plans to destroy Artime and his twin Alex. Then there is the issue of the silent; the pair of kids with thorns around their necks that washed up on the shores of Artime. No one knows where they came from and they?re unconscious. There is so much going on in the sequel and it?s wonderful! There is a little bit of something for everyone. IOS wasa an engaging and magical read. Alex Stowe, the good twin, is flawed and growing. Aaron Stowe, the evil twin, is manipulative with some redeeming qualities.Recommendation: This was a magical read and I think all readers will enjoy it despite the teasing ending. Great for young readers! What?s Next? So far, I have not heard mention of Book 3 anywhere on the web. That may be because IOS literally just came out. (Per twitter conversation with Lisa McMann, she is already working on Book 3!)5 STARS *****CLIFFHANGER ENDING FORGIVEN

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5As the Wanteds, Unwanteds, and Necessaries struggle to adjust to changes in their society, Mr. Today begins training fourteen-year-old Alex to replace him as Artime's leader one day while Alex's disgraced twin, Aaron, connives to take over Quill.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book was just as good as the first. The end was a huge cliffhanger and I am dying to read the next one. But, my tbr list calls... and there are at least 5 more books in the series. So, I will take a short break. But I'll be back.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is the second book in the Unwanted series by McMann. The third book in the series will be titled Island of Fire and is scheduled for a September 2013 release. This was an excellent book in this series, but I didn?t like it quite as much as the first book in this series.Alex, Lani, Samheed, and Megan are recovering from the epic battle against Quill that happened at the end of book one. With High Priest Justine overthrown tensions are building between Quill and Artime. Marcus Today and High Priest Haluki are working hard to make the two communities get along, but the Wanteds are angry at having to do their own work and Alex?s brother Aaron is there to stoke their anger. Things get more complicated when two strange orange eyed kids show up on the shore of Artime. This book starts a bit slowly. Much of the book deals with the growing tensions between Quill and Artime. This made it so that this book didn?t have the magic that the first book did. It was a lot of politics and a lot of trying to work to get the Necessaries that wanted to live in Artime merged in with that society. To be honest these parts of the book were a bit of a drag to read. What was more interesting was when Alex?s friends start exploring other islands outside of Artime. I really enjoyed this part of the story.A lot happens towards the end of the book, so the pacing could have been more consistent. The first portion moves slowly, while the last portion moves at a breakneck pace. There are some very heartbreaking things that happen towards the end of the story. This book mainly features Alex. Whereas the first book talked some about all of the characters, this book spends most of the time dealing with Alex and his struggles to take on some leadership in Artime. All of the characters grow quite a bit and it was nice to see them becoming more comfortable in their roles in Artime. Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed that this book creates a lot of huge new problems but none of them are resolved by the end of the book. The book pretty much leaves the reader at a total cliffhanger and I hate it when authors do that. This is still a very creative series and is very well written. But I didn?t think it was as good as the first book in this series.Overall a decent continuation of the series. I continue to enjoy this creative world and the engaging characters. I did not enjoy the slow pace of the first half of the book and thought that the way things were left was awful. Luckily I have Island of Fire to review, so I don?t have to wait too long to read how things resolve. I would recommend this to fans of middle grade fantasy/dystopia.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5**spoiler alert - In the second volume of this incredible dystopian young adult series, we find the story picking up right after the battle of good vs. evil has raged. Airtime has defeated the Quillens and the two tribes are struggling through an unsteady truce. Since the Quillens placed these Unwanteds in Airtime thinking they were condemning them to death, it takes a little adjustment to realize that not only are they alive but are great at magic spells, and just defeated them in battle.
Airtime is run by mage Mr. Today, whose evil twin sister was killed, as leader of Quill. Now his young prodigy, Unwanted Alex Stowe, has to face a similar destiny. His Wanted twin brother Aaron has devised a way to recruit a team of those unhappy with the turn of events since the battle who are seeking revenge. By controlling his team with food supply and managing to use a little of the magic back on those that conjured it up in the first place, he has found a way to weave his dastardly deeds on the unsuspecting inhabitants of Airtime.
Spies abound on both sides, the newly appointed high priest has been taken prisoner, but these are all unknown to Mr. Today, who decided that after the troubling times, he should take a few days of vacation and leave Alex in charge. While he is in charge, the worst possible circumstances happen. Three of Alex?s best friends sail to a neighboring isle and are taken captive, the whole of Airtime mysteriously disappears with all the buildings and magically created creatures disintegrating, and Mr. Today appears to be dead. It just couldn?t get any worse, or could it?
Alex has to turn to two shipwrecked creatures from the island where his friends are being held for help and McMann leaves us twisting in the wind as a new spell left for Alex by Mr. Today is discovered. Hope shines its smiley face on the troubled times in Airtime. I have it on good authority?the author herself?that book number three is in the editing process as we speak, which is a good thing as I can?t live without finding out how our heroes get out of this one. They do, don?t they? Hey Lisa! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was cool to see how everything shaped up after the events in The Unwanteds. Now I can't wait for 'Island of Fire'!
