- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5My son and I LOVED Mr. Buscemi's performance. When we turned at the end of the book, we saw that Dad, eavesdropping, enjoyed it as much as we did! The loss of a star is a bit unfortunate though, really. The wonderful vocal performance of the text; the fabulous gravelly sound effects and the very carefully chosen soundtrack had no accompanying illustrations from the book. That's no big deal for adult books like Yes, please! which I enjoyed uproariously. But a book like this ... it was so disappointing. I hope it was just our ignorance that left us without visual aids during the scrumbly-bumpy sounds of the junky job in the story. I am especially surprised at the lack of illustrions since they would certainly be available. I guess that the lack is in the Scribd player and not in the overall book recording.
I look forward to hearing more of Mr. Buscemi's voice work where I hope the production is as well done as it is for "I'm Dirty." But, I will probably limit my search for non-picture books in this format in the future. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5This book is about the journey of what a backhoe loader does in a day. He counts down the things he has to do. Oh and of course he gets dirty.I liked this book for kids. It was a fun little book. You can count down with the kids from 10 to 1. And you can talk to them about what different machines do and maybe get some toys they can play with.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Summary: This is a picture book about a backhoe who loves to work because he gets dirty all day at the dump while cleaning up, he uses numbers 1-10 to count down the tasks he has to do.Personal Reaction: I could relate to this book because I have been around construction and heavy equipment all my life, my dad had me operating a bulldozer at 7 years old (with his help of course)Extension: I think this would be a great time to introduce the importance of cleanliness to the students. Also it would be a great tool to use counting down from 1-10.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I love this book. It integrates teaching counting very smoothly. It also begins to teach onomatopoeia, alliteration, and terms related to backhoes. The writing is humorous and engaging. A great pick for young readers (0-5).
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Good for all ages. The book teaches the kids about what a tractor does. The title is appealing because kids love to get dirty. I would use this with grades 1-7
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I was reluctant to read yet another truck book to my 3yo, but she insisted, and I'm glad I did. This is about a backhoe, which, A, I never knew was so fascinating and all-purpose. And, B, it was great: the backhoe had tons of personality. And it was an "it"! I am so tired of trucks being "he" in board books. So this truck was an "it", which was awesome. Recommended.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a very basic picture book. I'm not familiar with the Authors previous work...but I thought this one was fairly well done. It's basic and probably best used as a read aloud book for younger kids (ages 1-4, I think would enjoy this best). It's short and full of colorful, descriptive language... the enthusiasm of the backhoe is catching and he sure does love his work...his VERY MESSY work! Readers and listeners alike are treated to a romp in the muck as this little guy cleans up a dirty lot. We even get some counting in, as he counts down from 10 to 1 cleaning up everything in the lot! The individual items are delineated enough in the art work for young readers to count out how many themselves as you go along...plus there are some silly items in there that will make young readers giggle too! My listeners also enjoyed making all the revving and roaring noises of the backhoe along with the story! This is a fun mix of education and just plan old vibrant fun! The art work matches the enthusiasm of the story with vibrant color pictures that have a slightly cartoonish feel to them! If you don't mind getting silly with the voices and sound effects, this book can be great fun for younger readers, I'd recommend it without hesitation. I'm Dirty gets a solid A from me!
