About this audiobook
A Jayne Ann Krentz Classic.
Legends can be dangerous, just ask Sariana Dayne. She sets out to hire one and wakes up married to him. It’s a marriage of infuriating inconvenience as far as Sariana is concerned.
Gryph Chassyn stirs all her senses but he’s one of the mysterious mercenaries known as Shields. Sensible women do not marry such men. But for Gryph, marrying Sariana is a matter of honor, passion and survival. He needs her in ways she cannot even imagine.
Before Sariana can find a way to escape the bond that has been forged between them, she and Gryph are caught up in a desperate quest to save their world. The future looks a little different but some things, like love and passion, and murder never change.

Reviews for Shield's Lady

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book is fast-paced and entertaining with so many twists and turns.
It keeps you waiting for the next twist. I enjoyed this book. - Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Extremely sexist book. The hero is a rapey, misogynistic, dismissive brute. The heroine never stands up for herself or confronts him for lying and tricking her. There is absolutely zero acknowledgement or closure given to this issue. I honestly found the level of gaslighting and the women-are-property attitudes in this novel sort of traumatizing. I love 99% of Jane Ann Krentz's Ouevre but this book glorifies toxic, manipulative, illmatched relationships rooted in misogynistic foundations with no development. Do not read this.
Edit: Wanted to add this; as both a woman, and someone who has experienced unpleasant and unwanted sexual advances, I understand there are sometimes blurred lines in aspects of consent. This book moves way past that line into deeply concerning territory. I have no issue with an author exploring that, but to paint it as a love story made me sick to my stomach. I downloaded this for a long car ride and I couldn't even stomach it enough to finish it. It brought up all sorts of awful past experiences and I honestly can't believe someone could write or read this without realizing how deeply troubling the messages within it are. It took me actual weeks to recover from listening to the amount of it that I did, so I beseech you to try something else. - Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Let's just say I had super high hopes for this one. They were pretty well dashed. When I was halfway through I decided it rated 2 stars, however by the end, I bumped it up to 2.5. The end was great, once the heroine stopped being a whiny little child and grew up the book was wonderful, unfortunately it took almost the whole book for her to stop acting a child. Unfortunately, the ending was not enough to make up for the rest of it. The heroine made me think of a 3 year old who claps their hands of their ears and goes "La la la la la I'm not listening!" That being said, the writing was wonderful, and I truly wanted to finish the book even though I hated the heroine.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of my favorites from the marvelous Jayne Ann Krentz. Doesn't matter which name she writes under, if I find it I'll read it and I'll love it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5In a world where a colony from earth crashlanded in two areas, people have created a different society in each area as they were isolated from each other for a while. Now Sariana comes to the West to find a life and to make her fortune. When she meets Gryph her life changes and he and she have to work out what they're doing for their lives. She may change the world of the Shields forever.I swore years ago that I would never read another book in this series by this author. I was wrong, this is a much better and stronger book than Crystal Flame. Crystal Flame wound me up in many ways with it's 80's attitude. However, the Science Fiction of this story is paper thin, there's a lot of handwaving and glossing over the world, still I enjoyed the read.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you're into futuristics (and a fan of Amanda Quick—this is one of her pen names), then you'll love this one. The hero is sexy and there's a mystical subplot that really touched me.
