About this audiobook
In this riveting prequel to her novel Little Mercies, New York Timesbestselling author Heather Gudenkauf explores how even the smallest lies can have far-reaching consequences.
When the body of a woman is discovered in a local park—with her bewildered four-year-old son sitting beside her—veteran social worker Ellen Moore is called in to assist in the police investigation. Positioned beneath a statue of Leto, the goddess of motherhood, the crime is weighted with meaning and, Ellen discovers, remarkably similar to one from a decade past.
Ellen's professional duty is to protect the child, but she's not equipped to contend with a killer. As she races to connect the dots, she knows her time is running out. And the stakes are high: if she fails, another mother is sure to make the ultimate sacrifice.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Really loved there was a preview for the upcoming book and the characters were introduced to the reader. Found it instantly intriguing and feeling just as anxious to save the little one left behind.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/52 audio discsa prequelunabridged, 2 discs simply and effectively presented a decent murder mystery.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Little Mercies was my favourite book of Heather Gudenkauf and while I read this little novella long after Little Mercies, I did enjoy another day in the life of the social worker Ellen that is the main character of Little Mercies. Not a fan of short stories, I am learning to like these quick little novellas that you can read at one sitting. This had a little more crime aspect than her later novel did.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A prequel novella to Little Mercies, with an intriguing storyline. I loved the introduction to the characters in Little Mercies. I thought that the murder mystery was interesting. I must admit that I had the killer figured out before the end, but it didn't stop me from liking the story. The novella did end quickly with an open ending, but it didn't bother me because I was ready to start Little Mercies. Now that I am reading Little Mercies I enjoy the fact that I got a glimpse into the characters lives. I feel like I know a secret that no one else does, which totally draws me into the characters lives.
