FOR visitors who prefer personalised service, Lochmara Lodge is a locally owned and operated small resort that opened 22 years ago and still has only 14 rooms.

Lochmara’s attractions include a cafe set right on the water’s edge, a permanently moored underwater observatory and 11 acres to explore on the Marlborough Sounds in Lochmara Bay, Queen Charlotte Sound, Picton.

There are no roads, but water transport can be arranged from Picton – and the property has a scenic 3.5km walking track to the famous Queen Charlotte Track.

All room rates include free wifi, entry into art and nature walks and free use of kayaks
