OREGON

PINOT NOIR

96 Dion 2018 Old Vines Pinot Noir (Chehalem Mountains). The old vines—Pommard clone, own-rooted, and planted in 1976—offer a rare peek into Oregon’s winemaking past. The subtle layering, depth and detail of this wine are impressive, as is the sheer power of these old vines. Red berries, cherries, nectarines and even a hint of pineapple are evident, with silky tannins and perfectly set acidity. Aged in 50% new barrels, it’s a gem. Editors’ Choice. —P.G.

abv: 13.8% Price: $65

This single-vineyard cuvée features some of the original vines from the 1965 planting at Eyrie. It’s as Burgundian in style as it gets in Oregon, without losing its sense of prime place in the Dundee Hills. Subtle, elegant and detailed, it’s layered with cherries, strawberries and hints of nectarines. There’s an appealing creamy character, and a whiff of sweet. —P.G.
