MENTION ST OSYTH beach to any self-respecting sea angler and it will send a shiver of anticipation down their spine. Located on the Essex coast, it has always been regarded as a summer venue for big bass, thornback rays and giant stingrays. The fishing here doesn’t just stop when summer and autumn fade away because those thornback rays return with vengeance.
To catch a thornback ray in the middle of winter was something that never really happened on the Essex coast. Now, with the right weather and tide, anglers can have some good cold-weather sport during daylight hours and after dark too.
