IN THE SLOW LANE

eading the December issue of MBY I couldn’t help but notice the trend for leisurely cruising rather than rushing around at a rate of knots. Your articles on Prestige’s X70 and Beneteau’s Trawler 62 both mention that the manufacturers appreciate that most owners cruise at under 10 knots these days. This seems to be backed up by the reader articles you’ve published such as Slow Boat to Finer Weather, Lost in France and Lock Down Slow Down. Jon Harding’s letter is further evidence that we don’t all This definitely seems to be a rapidly emerging trend accelerated by the desire to reduce carbon footprint and the widespread adoption of stabilisers that make displacement cruising a more comfortable affair for all.
