How to hand quilt

The basic idea of hand quilting is to weave your needle through the layers of your quilt in order to hold them all together. Typically, you start by tying a quilter’s knot (see p16 for tips on how to make one) and hiding it in the middle of your quilt sandwich. Do this by inserting the needle between the quilt top and the batting and coming up through the quilt top in the place you want to begin stitching. From there, make your first stitch. Move your needle down, through all three layers of the quilt sandwich, and then back up through the layers again until you return to the top.
