Why I Became a Journalist

I’ve never started a story like that before, because I spent 15 years as a reporter with the mantra that you never make yourself the story. But today I’m writing to you as ’ chief operating officer. I joined the leadership team last February, which seems like eons ago: Within my first three months, we were tackling events that might happen once during someone’s entire career—a global economic crisis, a pandemic, a presidential campaign unlike any other, and historic civil rights demonstrations, all the time to catch my breath and use it to introduce myself to you, our readers, and learn more about why you are a part of this community.
