The great British materials shortage?

Without a shadow of doubt, 2020 has been one of the most challenging of years in the construction industry, and for self-builders and renovators, for decades. Covid-19, Brexit uncertainty and an economic downturn have led to materials shortages across the country. These started in the first lockdown back in March when gypsum-based products like multi-finish (plaster), hardwall, bonding and plasterboard became scarce, and other shortage quickly followed. Now, with further lockdowns and restrictions, and the UK possibly leaving the EU without a trade deal, will we face still more supply problems? Could the construction industry grind to a halt for want of materials?
