DITCH THE PRICKS
Researchers at the University of Waterloo, Canada, have developed a new diabetes monitor that can quickly and accurately determine your BGLs without needing to draw blood. This palm-sized device sends radio waves through the skin, into the blood vessels, and reflects back to the device which is analysed by artificial intelligence (AI) software. Changes in BGLs are determined based on a baseline reading obtained by a glucometer or blood test to maintain accuracy. Researchers are exploring the commercialisation of this technology and the development of a safe, reusable and pain-free wearable device – similar to a smartwatch – for people with diabetes.
