WHEN DEER DISAPPEAR

I was stoked! I came within a whisker of having a decent buck enter bow range and had seen several other deer during my afternoon sit. I couldn’t have been more confident for the next day’s hunt on the isolated alfalfa field.

Not seeing the buck that next afternoon did nothing to dampen my enthusiasm because I did see the same doe and fawn from the previous day. I just figured it was a matter of time before the buck reappeared.

Long story short: I did see the buck two more times during the next three weeks. However, he then vanished into thin air. Stubbornly, I kept hunting the alfalfa field, certain he’d come back and I’d get my chance. It never happened. Eventually, I even managed to run the doe and fawn off, leaving most sits completely deerless.
