‘This is not India,’ Newlands residents told

A GROUP of residents in Newlands were told “This is not India” during a meeting regarding a council notice for the rezoning of a park to residential accommodation.

Residents of Sooklall Drive were seeking answers from Joyce Johnson, an ANC ward councillor, regarding the development on Runton Way when Muzi Hlengwa, the leader of the African People First movement, arrived.

He allegedly said the project would go ahead, regardless of their objections. In a video of the meeting that was shared on social media, he told the residents to give the developer a chance.
