Driving and diabetes

DRIVING A VEHICLE requires complex physical and mental skills. When you have diabetes, you may need to take extra precautions to ensure road safety. If you take insulin or glucose-lowering medicines, hypoglycaemia (‘hypo’) can stop you from driving safely.

If you are not sure if you are at risk of having a hypo, see your diabetes team.

A hypo occurs when your blood glucose levels (BGLs) drops below 4mmol/L.
