The last journey home

YOUR article on the first Remembrance Day () has a gap inand reaching London, the coffin of the Unknown Warrior was conveyed by rail in a very special vehicle, which still exists. Said carriage also carried the coffins of nurse Edith Cavell and Capt Fryatt, on their last journeys home. The Cavell Van () can still be seen at Bodiam Station, in the care of the Kent and East Sussex Railway. It is also an ‘out-station’ of the Imperial War Museums. In normal years, I visit every autumn to pay my respects.
