Audiobooks have been one of the recent successes of book production, in many ways due to the commercial determination of Amazon. But there are other reasons that make the new wave of audiobooks successful:

• They have better reach for readers who prefer to listen rather than read
• They can be accessed when travelling by car or public transport
• They offer a promotional edge for an author’s existing book
• They potentially have a good profit margin for an author
• They are available to the visually impaired and readers of large print books
