Stuffing a wad of candyfloss into my mouth, I washed it down with a gulp of Coke. Crowds of people were bustling around, and the whoosh of rollercoasters blared all around me.
It was 2013, and I’d taken my kids, Charlie, then nine, and Hermione, then, five, for a fun day out at Alton Towers.
But while I was perfectly content gorging on hot dogs and candyfloss in the food court, the kids were all about the rides.
‘Can we go on the Galactica, please Mum?’ Charlie begged.
‘Oh alright then,’ I sighed.
