“I wasn’t even looking for a Ranger,” said Cody Jones about his search for a used 4x4. “I wanted a completely stock ’85 Toyota pickup with EFI and air conditioning, but those were all overpriced.” Cody wasn’t searching for his first truck, nor was this his seventh or eighth. In true gearhead style, his life has been filled with a lineage of trucks and SUVs bought, driven, and sold.
Working construction in his formative Top Truck Challenge, Ultimate Adventure, and an all-around Suzuki guru. Short-wheelbase Samurais let him navigate twisty off-road trails and were every bit as cost-effective as they were maneuverable. “They’re still my love and I still wanna buy one every time I see one,” said Cody about Samurais, but more inspiration and vehicles were on the horizon.
