TOT NOT SO HAPPY WITH THE BABY?

HERE’S YOUR 9-STEP PLAN

The arrival of a new baby in the house can be stressful for your toddler. Here are some ways to avoid friction.

1 WAIT BEFORE TELLING Wait till you start showing to tell her there’s a baby growing in your “tummy”.

2 BE HONEST Don’t promise things will be the same, but reassure her that you’ll love her just as much.

3 INVOLVE HER IN PLANNING FOR BABY Let her shop with you for baby items.

4 AVOID BIG CHANGES Make any changes like toilet training well before your new baby arrives, or delay them until everyone is settled.

5 EXPECT SOME REGRESSION It’s normal for a potty-trained toddler to start acting like a baby again after a new baby arrives. Give her the attention she needs, and praise her when she acts ”grown-up”.

6 PREPARE HER FOR YOUR HOSPITAL STAY Explain that you’ll be back with the new baby in a few days.

7 MAKE TIME Spend special time each day with your older child.

8 ENCOURAGE VISITORS to fuss over her.

9 LET HER SPEND TIME with Dad.
