PRINCESS CRUISES A PIONEER IN MODERN CRUISING

One of the most recognised names in cruising, Princess Cruises, was one of the pioneer lines which helped to shape the modern cruise industry. In 2019 Princess introduced its 17th ship, the largest in its history, the 145,281gt Sky Princess, as part of a wave of expansion.

The fourth ship in what the line calls its Royal class, Sky Princess added further refinements to the class, which debuted in 2013 with Royal Princess, followed by Regal Princess in 2014 and Majestic Princess in 2017. It was also the platform for P&O’s Britannia, introduced in 2015. It was the first new class of cruise ships for the line since the Grand class was introduced in 1998, and in 2013 Royal Princess became Princess’s first new cruise ship in five years.

While Sky Princess has many of the same features of her earlier sisterships, she added 50 new cabins, including the largest suites on any Princess cruise ship, increasing capacity to 3,660 passengers. She was also the first cruise ship built with Princess’ onboard passenger technology, the OceanMedallion, a wearable device designed to enhance service and provide interactive entertainment, integrated into the ship.
