In early July of this year the coast of New South Wales experienced an exceptionally large swell thanks to the formation of a slow-moving and unusually powerful storm system. Known as East Coast Lows (ECL), these storms typically create mountainous seas, gale force winds and driving rain for several days before moving away to the east.
